It's new years Eve 2022 and I was sitting at the table in my home, together with my mothers, Jackson and Macy. "Grace, what are your goals for 2023?" My Ma asked and I couldn't say if she was joking or not, so I eyed her confused. "I mean beside the National Team and the World Cup." She said amused. I nodded and thought about it for a second. "I think I'll try to enjoy everything a little bit more and don't be too hard on my self if things don't work out the way I want them to."
"Those are great goals Gracie bear." Mom said giving me a kiss on the cheek. "Jackson?" My Ma asked next and I was also interested what my brother wanted to achieve in 2023. "I finally want to pass that stupid math exam." He groaned. Everyone laughed and Macy elbowed him playfully into the rips. "How about, finally starting to learn for it?" My brother rolled his eyes. "Okay, smarty pants what are your goals?" Macy also thought for a moment and then answered. "Finally visiting my family in Europe and seeing the most iconic landmarks all other the continent."
"You should hold onto that goal for a year longer because in 2024 we will definitely be going to Paris and then we can do a sightseeing tour through Europe with a gold medal around my neck." Jackson joked and now it was Macy's time to playfully roll her eyes. "Sometimes you're so full of your self, mister." She said pointing an accusing finger at his chest. My Ma agreed with her and we started eating dinner.
Macy arrived yesterday, after spending Christmas with her family and brought a strange table grill thing with her. She told us that in Germany nearly everyone eats a dish called 'Raclette' at new years eve. We then googled it and learned that it's originally from Switzerland. You have little pans, that are filled with different vegetables, potatoes or noodles and cheese. You can assemble your own little dinner with everything thats on the table and try different combinations with each little pan. It was delicious and we declared it as a new family tradition.
It was still a few hours until midnight and Ma dug some games out. While we played Uno Mom also got the whine out and the evening started to get a little funnier. My mothers aren't that strict with it. They always said that they wanted us to have our first experience with alcohol in their presence and allowed us to drink whine on special occasions once we turned eighteen. Since Macy's parents are from Germany, she was allowed to drink whine since she was sixteen and it still blows my mind that germans are allowed to drink when they turn sixteen but can't drive a car on their own until they're eighteen.
Because Macy drinks whine since she is sixteen she totally instigated me to drink more than I normally do when I'm at home, which resulted in me being quiet drunk around midnight when my Mom started the countdown. The next minutes were filled with new years wishes and kisses and when I saw Jackson and Macy kiss my drunken mind turned to Evie.
"I wished I could kiss Evie right now."
Everyone fell silent and I looked at Jackson. "Shit, did I say that out loud." Jackson nodded, smirking and gave Macy a knowing look. Then my Mom spoke up. "Well Gracie is there something you want to tell us."
"Uhm, well... no?" I stuttered and my Ma laughed. "Cecilia, honey, let the poor girl breath." My Mom tried to calm her wife down but Ma was way to exited. "So, Evie. That's the girl that spent Thanksgiving with us, right?" She continued while completely ignoring the fact that Evie is a girl, but that's probably because they are lesbians. I nodded and my mom came over, hugging me tightly. "You know, that we knew this whole time that your also eyeing the girls, and it's okay that you never told us. The times of coming outs should be over anyway." She said, talking about me never telling them about my sexual orientation. "Your right, Mom, but Evie and I will never happen, she's totally straight." My Mom nodded and send Ma a knowing look, who laughed and said "Yes, I knew a girl like that once.", looking at my Mom.
The Evening continued and Macy led me to the kitchen wanting to talk. "You know that Evie likes you, right?" I shrugged my shoulders. "I'm honestly not that sure." She shook her head. "She does. She's just having a hard time accepting that. But please give her some time and wait for her to be ready. I think you could really help her a lot." I nodded and thanked her, still not convinced that what she said in the truth.
I rally hope Evie realizes how much I care about her and that it's okay to let someone love you, regardless of their gender.
