"Devin #711?" 4178 called out to the small waiting area with even fewer Devins waiting to be attended by him. He looked around the room and spotted out of the corner of his eye 711 stand up and begin to walk towards him. He smiled even bigger than before, "Good morning, how is today treating you?"
She smiled back to him and walked with him into an empty room, "Everything is going great. How about your day, doctor?"
4178 opened the door to a room with a gold plaque that read "Room 5." "Come inside and sit down on the bed. My day has been wonderful so far!" He lied convincingly. The truth was that he was freaking out about the protest happening just a few miles from the hospital. He wondered how many Devins knew about it and if they were already doing preparations. Meanwhile, he was at work, trying to get through the day before sprinting out and buying everything he thought he'd need for the end of the world. He looked at his patient who was staring at the white wall, spacing off. He wanted to ask her if she knew anything about the protests, but it was code not to talk to patients about anything outside of the hospital.
"So, what brings you in today?" He asked, flipping through the chart and stopping after noticing her appointment was for talking about her health.
"I want to have kid... but I fear that with my age, it won't be possible. I'm here to see if I am still fertile..." she smiled nervously, clearly worried. It was her dream to become a mother, and as a doctor, it was 4178's job to make her dream come true. So, as she bit her lip and tapped her fingers together, he would explain that it was possible.
He smiled reassuringly, "You are fifty-three... Years away from menopause. So, I do not doubt that you will be able to have children. It'll just take some medications and such to help you produce fertile eggs." He smiled at her after seeing her eyes light up with hope. It made this job so much more gratifying to know that he was helping Devin's become parents. Moving on, he sat down near his computer and began typing away as he asked a serious of questions. "Do you smoke, drink alcohol, or take drugs?"
"I only drink alcohol. Every once in a while, though. Like parties or special occasions."
"Have you ever been exposed to chemicals or radiation?"
She shook her head, "I'm a high school teacher and have never been to any place with high amounts of radiation or chemicals."
"Do you use birth control and what methods do you use?"
"I haven't used any for a few years. I've been trying to get pregnant since for three years. But before, I used only condoms."
"Would you say your period is always regular? Lasts the same amount of time and comes at the same time each month?"
"The days it lasts is always the same. But the time fluctuates every few months. Last time it was every twenty-five days, and now it's every twenty-seven days."
"Last question, have you tried any treatment before this one?"
She shook her head. 4178 finished filling out the form and turned to look at her, "Everything here seems normal. Now I'm going to perform tests to test your fertility levels, uterus, and cervix." He grabbed a speculum, checked it for any chips or rough edges, then, he heated it up to a comfortable temperature and added some lube.
The anesthesiologist came by and gave her regional anesthesia to numb her lower half. After a few minutes, 4178 checked that the anesthesia had went into effect by pinching her. With no reaction, he began the procedure. He inserted the speculum into the vaginal canal and opened it to a comfortable position. He then grabbed a swab and collected cells from the cervix; putting it in a sterile container, his nurse delivered the tube to the lab to be analyzed. He closed the speculum and pulled it out. "Now I'm going to test you for the luteinizing hormone which determines what days your ovulation takes. I am going to ask you to urinate in this cup and bring it back."
