4178 and 3007 were silent the whole drive to the arts and crafts store a few seconds away from their homes. The store sold anything to build and create, a do it yourself. Perfect for getting wood, metals, felt, silk, glue, beads, glitter, etc. But now in a place where survival is what all of Devin's are thinking about, it's the perfect place to buy survival items. They needed rope, batteries, sharp objects, objects able to hit someone and hurt them. With sharp items that can hurt others becoming illegal, creating weapons for defending oneself meant creativity was needed. Creativity to make a knife out of paper, or a hammer out of soap.
4178 looked out of the window and didn't see anything new. Devin's were ordering cars and getting on, the cars moved and took them to their destination. Just like in the morning and afternoon, just this time it was at a random time where not this many people would be out. He clenched his fists, nervous, wishing he was at home drinking to alleviate the stress.
3007 had both legs up and was hugging them. Half of their hair was held up by a bun, and the lower half swung around their face. They stared at the light gray wall in front them, thinking about random things while waiting for the car to arrive. 'What lays beyond the Silky Frey? Us, Marvin, Krissun, Ali, and April. What else is there? What if there's a planet where it's desolate, empty. No plants, animals, life, or land. Just an empty sphere of nothing but color. Is that even possible? Could there be nothing yet something?'
'Animals lived here... Why'd we get rid of them? What was their reasoning?' Their eyes shifted towards 4178 as the car landed. "Why do you think they killed all animals?"
4178 grabbed the latch and opened the car, and without turning back, he answered, "We didn't need them? We created fake meat where no farms would be needed." He got out and watched 3007 scoot towards him and get out. Now they were both close together, meeting eye to eye for the fact all Devins were the same height.
3007 moved away; 4178 closed the door. "How about pets? I always wanted to own a bird. Big enough and strong enough to lift me up with their claws and fly me around..." 3007's tone shifted. Slow paced, to let 4178 this was an important subject that would cause them to become a bit melancholy.
They both entered the store and walked the aisles. "Won't they be dangerous? Animals killed, you know? And they can't be controlled like us." 4178 scanned the goods on the aisle and realized they were in the fabric aisle. He sped up to another aisle and 3007 chased along. He thought more about 3007 question, before 3007 was able to say another word. He figured that animals became extinct due to the way they were treated when alive. Devin's used to lock them cages and force them to breed or experiment on them. Getting rid of them was sad and cruel, but in many ways, saved the future generations from being abused.
"I guess. But I still want one." They smiled and sped walked past 4178 and made their way to the tool's aisle. "No weapons allowed but we can get creative."
4178 had to run to catch up to 3007 and when he caught up took a deep breath to calm his speeding heart. He looked at the gardening tools and grabbed a trowel, "Like this?"
They nodded and smiled, showing off a wrench, "I got this one!" They realized they never got a shopping cart and quickly went to fetch one. 3007 grabbed a cart and as they pulled it out, a hoard of Devin's coming over caught their eye. A large group was getting out of cars and rushing over. 3007 clutched the cart and ran towards 4178, "Devin's are coming! Grab batteries!"
4178 heard the slight scream and for a few seconds stood there, trying to process and get his body moving. He walked out of the aisle and rushed towards the battery aisle. Grabbing packs of every kind, small and large.
