Secrets - Myung Jaehyun

becoming a kpop idol was your biggest dream, yet you didn't know it came with having to keep so many secrets.

you, Kim Y/n, are the oldest member of the hit group Newjeans. being only one month older than Minji meant that she was your closest friend in the group.

and that meant she knew all of your secrets. well, almost all.

"girl are you ever going to ask him out?"

Minji's voice suddenly broke the silence of the studio, making you look up from your phone with wide eyes.

"ask who out?"

now you knew exactly who she was talking about, but you always found it hard to admit your feelings towards this person.

"Jaehyun! honestly seeing the two of you together is like looking at a married couple"

right, Jaehyun. Myung Jaehyun. his group, Boynextdoor, had just debuted. the two of you were close during trainee days and left some unresolved feelings behind when preparing for your debuts. you knew you definitely liked the guy, and he definitely liked you too.

"it's not that easy, though. we're idols, remember?"

it was at that moment you looked up at the doorway and saw the very guy you was talking about stood there as if he was just walking past but stopped to eavesdrop. when he saw you look over, he sped away.

Minji was too busy looking at her phone to notice your expression change so you quickly stood up with a loud cough.

"i'm just going to- i'll be right back"

before the girl could respond, you ran out of the studio and looked down the hallway. you saw Jaehyun sneak into one of the studios a couple doors down so you made your way towards it.

once you made it outside the room, you let out a deep sigh before knocking on the door.

"knock knock"

a few seconds of shuffling was heard before the door was opened and Jaehyun leaned onto the doorframe with a sheepish smile.

"we look like a married couple, huh?"

you playfully rolled your eyes before pushing on the boys shoulders making him stumble backwards into the studio with a laugh. you then closed the door behind you.

once the door was closed, Jaehyun regained his balance and took a step closer before wrapping both of his arms around you, trapping you in a hug.

"please, don't tease me"

you mumbled as you rested your head onto the boys chest and closed your eyes. he then laughed again before holding onto your face with his hands and making you look up at him.

"you're cute"

he stared down at you with the most loving smile on his face. you wonder sometimes how you became so lucky to have this guy in your life.

so yes, you and Jaehyun were actually dating. but of course you had to keep it a secret, even from your own group members.

you stared up into his eyes for what felt like hours before finally speaking up.

"how long do you think we need to keep this a secret for?"

it seemed as if your question caught him off guard since his eyes widened ever so slightly and you could feel his hands loosen on your face.

"i uh.. i don't know.."

this was a hard topic for the both of you to talk about, because obviously being idols in popular groups meant there was always eyes on you.

"i hope we can tell everyone, someday."

the two of you fell into a comfortable silence as his hands made their way down to your waist and pulled you into another hug.

the silence didn't last for long, though, as there was a sudden knock on the studio's door. you and Jaehyun pulled away from the hug and you hid in the corner of the room that wasn't visible from the door.

Jaehyun then made his way over to the door and opened it slightly so that the person on the outside could only see his face.

"oh, Jaehyun!"

it was Minji's voice.

"have you seen y/n at all? she left me a few minutes ago but hasn't returned yet"

Jaehyun subtly looked over at you and you shook your head quickly. he then moved his gaze back to the girl outside the room.

"i haven't seen her, sorry. i'll let you know if i do though"

you heard Minji let out a small 'thank you' before leaving and Jaehyun softly closed the door seconds later before looking over at you with a teasing smile.

"you know, this keeping secrets thing is kind of fun"
