The sensation of being the center of attention was utterly overwhelming. From being the quiet, unnoticed girl in school and college, to suddenly finding myself thrust into the spotlight as the queen of the most influential province, my life had taken a whirlwind of twists and turns in the past few months.

Our first public appearance as a married couple, and as the royal figures of Pratapgarh, was nothing short of chaotic. Surrounded by press and paparazzi, bombarded with questions and scrutiny, I felt like a deer caught in headlights. But he stood beside me like a protective shield, answering questions and handling media obligations, while I clung to his hand, seeking solace in his presence.

After what felt like an eternity of meeting relatives and guests, I found myself standing beside him, trying to catch my breath amidst the whirlwind of activity. He glanced at me, concern etched in his eyes, and asked if I was alright. All I could manage was a feeble nod, my voice failing me in the midst of it all.

As we shared a brief moment of eye contact, his words caught me off guard. "You look exquisitely gorgeous," he said with a swift smile, leaving me momentarily speechless. But before I could respond, our attention was diverted by a cough from nearby.

Turning towards the source of the sound, we were greeted by a tall, handsome man in a stylish suit, accompanied by a woman in a stunning red gown.

Did I interupt something the man spoke as he smiled looking at me.

"By the way I just came here to introduce myself as my duchebag  of Bestfriend will never let me meet my beutiful bhabhi", .he said glaring at him and I looked at him in confusion but then he said.

"Hi Bhabhi I samarth and this is my Ex girlfriend Rithika".

"I told you this is not funny", the woman in red said and slapped his bicep.

"Hi I am Rithika and his fiance", she said and pointed towards Samarth.

They introduced themselves as Samarth and Rithika, his best friend and fiancée, respectively.

"Hello, its nice to meet both of you" I said smiling they both seemed older than me probably of his age.

Despite the unexpected interruption, we engaged in pleasant conversation, sharing stories and laughter before they were whisked away by their group of friends. Left alone with family members, I found solace in chatting with Yuvaan and Kirtee, even though the event had left me physically exhausted and emotionally drained.

Reflecting on the absence of my father, I couldn't help but feel a pang of disappointment. His wife's presence, despite her prior disapproval of our marriage, only added to the confusion and frustration swirling inside me. Stuck in a loop of societal expectations and familial obligations, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was living someone else's life, and it was taking its toll on me.

She looked absolutely ethereal in that white saree, standing next to me. It was strange, but in that moment, I felt an inexplicable sense of belonging with her. Her presence alone had the power to melt away any reservations I had.

I had never looked at any other woman the way I looked at her. Even during my engagement to her sister, I never spared her more than a passing glance.

Our relationship meant nothing to me beyond a mere business alliance, a fact I made clear to Subha during our first meeting. Surprisingly, she seemed okay with it. Over the years, I never developed any feelings towards her.

And one day at Holi, something shifted when I saw Avni for the first time, She was dressed in white Anarkali, untouched by the vibrant colors around her. Unlike her elder sister, she seemed reserved, almost shy. Her eyes, so full of curiosity, explored the palace with a childlike wonder. I felt an urge to talk to her, to unravel the mysteries behind those innocent eyes. Yet, opportunities never presented themselves.

The last time I saw her was on our wedding night. Tears glistened in her eyes as I applied vermilion to her parting. It was clear she wasn't happy with this arrangement.

I wanted to comfort her, to assure her that she wasn't alone in this, but I chose to give her space instead, hoping she would come to terms with everything in her own time.

Admitting my desire to keep her in my life would be selfish. I couldn't force this marriage upon her. Still, I hoped she would give us a chance. Her father's words echoed in my mind, reminding me of the fragile heart I had been entrusted with.

As I watched her laugh and giggle with my cousins, I couldn't help but wonder, "Can I be selfish with you?"
