I don't know what I expected to happen when Levi accepted his new role, but the pain reappearing on my wrist was quite rude. It only lasted for a minute but still. I looked down at my mark and the lettering had changed from red to black, permanently tying me to my Guardian.

"So what happens now?" I ask the three men in the room.

"Well first and foremost, you will be moving in with me. Normally we would take that part slowly but considering you live on the streets, you will be staying here with a roof over your head." Levi answered.

My eyes narrowed at this. "So I'm stuck staying at the castle anyways? I feel like I'm being bamboozled left and right here."

"Relax, the living quarters for the guards are almost like apartments. We have our own bedrooms, kitchen, living room, and all that jazz. You wouldn't come across anyone else in the castle unless you wanted too." he explains.

I pouted and crossed my arms. "Remind me to start asking for details the next time I try to make a deal or I'm given choices."

"Well now that everything is all settled. Levi, get her bathed and fed. Quinn, if you could do us a favor and ask one of the maids to get some properly fitting clothes for the little one that would be wonderful." Viktor commands.

"What's wrong with my clothes?" I ask defensively while looking down at my attire.

"Other than the fact they look like they are swallowing you whole?" he asks with light laugh. "You need something clean on while those get washed anyways. Now shoo so I can do my kingly duties."

"You mean so you can play candy crush without your princess trying to swipe your phone?" Levi asks teasingly while opening the door for us all to leave.

"What? No! I would never do that to my little Ember." He says unconvincingly while sliding his phone under a stack of papers.

"Whatever you say Dad. Come Shailyn, let's get you a nice warm bath. I'm sure you will feel a lot more refreshed."

I look at Viktor hesitantly and he gives a light nod of encouragement before gently pushing me towards my new caregiver.

"So the King has a little as well?" I ask my Guardian as he leads me to wherever his place was in this ginormous building.

"He does, they found each other five years ago. Ember had tried sneaking onto the palace grounds after she saw one of the guard dogs. You should have seen the look on my Dad's face when she was found with our most vicious Mastiff licking her face."

I stopped walking at this news. "There is dogs here?"

He nods. "Two Mastiffs and two great Danes. They won't harm you though, if you are worried about that. They seem to spot a little before anyone else does."

I wasn't too convinced by this but I continued walking. We went up a flight of stairs and down a few corridors before coming to a door with a small wooden sign on the front, Lord Levi.

"Lord?" I question with a raised eyebrow.

"Well, I am a prince after all. I'm the first in charge of the royal guards. Quinn is my second in command."

'Of course he is. Out of all the guards I could have pick pocketed, it just had to be the leader' Came my thought as the door opened and I was guided inside.
