Axel and I spent the next two hours reading comic books. We had ditched our solo reading method two books in. The Griffins, who had been getting to know each other, had watched as we silently moved from sitting across from each other to being sprawled out on the blanket. We laid side by side with a comic book in front of us, only speaking to ok a page flip or to comment on a particular scene we were reading.

The last book came to an end way sooner than I would have liked. Axel must have felt the same way as he let out a sad sigh before putting the book in his backpack.

"Axel, you have a plethora of comic books at home buddy. You'll have other chances to read them together." Erik reassured him with a pat on the head.

"Plus it's warm outside, you guys could use a hydration break" Levi adds in while pulling water bottles out of the basket he brought. My eyebrow raised at this and I turned to Axel.

"You sure Eric is the Momma here?" I ask, remembering the term he used for his caregiver.

For the first time in my life, I saw a fairy of mischief actually blush as he looked down with a shy laugh*

"Hey, Papa's can be worried about their little ones' health too!" Levi defends himself with a pout on his face

"Ah right. Must be the overprotective thing that Quinn mentioned."

Levi fake gasped at this before turning to Eric. "You sure that Axel is the mischief fairy here?"

"Who says it can't be both of us?" Axel and I ask at the same time. We locked eyes for a moment in surprise before breaking out in fits of laughter.

The two caregivers watched with a stunned expression on their faces. They watched the two littles rolling on the ground in fits of laughter before turning to each other.

"I'm starting to see why the gods and goddesses above put two Griffins in charge." Eric mumbles, Levi nods with a slight frown on his face.

"Yeah I'm getting the feeling we've got our work cut out for us."

Once Axel and I had finally calmed down from our laughing, Levi passed out the water bottles before pulling me into his lap. Not wanting to be held in big space, I tried to subtly move off but he tightened his hold slightly.

"Relax little minx, it's just so I can make sure you aren't drinking to fast,"  he tells me quietly so the other two couldn't hear.  "I know you wouldn't be ready to be seen with a baby bottle in public but, I also need to make sure you aren't unintentinally making yourself sick."

Grumbling slightly, I stopped trying to crawl off and leaned back into his chest. I wasn't happy but he was nice enough to leave the little items behind so I couldn't be too mad about it. "Fine but only for the water"

Levi chuckled at my grumpiness before handing me the bottle of water. "Thank you little one."

While taking sips of my water, I took the moment of quietness to study Erik and Axel. It had been a long time since I've had the chance to speak to another fairy. "So what is life like as a mischief fairy?"

"You...don't know?" Axel asks with a confused look on his face. Eric's eyes glanced over to Levi who let out a small chuckle.

"Shailyn hasn't had a chance to finish all of her classes yet. By nature, mischief fairies are asexual littles, or pets. They've been that way since the beginning of time and are raised a bit differently than everyone else."

"Yeah, like we are homeschooled for example." Axel chimes in. "We learn the same things we would in school but, we are also taught how to care for ourselves in and out of headspace. Most of us also have a caregiver side too, but not every mischief fairy."

"So what happens when you become an adult?"

"Depends on the fairy. Some choose to go through an adoption agency while others may decide choose a more independent route. There are dorms we could live in with other mischief fairies, think of a community environment where everyone helps each other."

"Could you like still get a job and stuff?" I ask him, wanting to know how much independence they were allowed.

"Yep, although there are some limitations. We can't join the military or be a first responder. I'm a photographer"

"That's like, taking photos and stuff right?"

"Yeah. Mine are usually nature based, sometimes I might include a historical building or a two. Could show you my portfolio sometime if you'd like?" Axel offered.

"Sure, I wouldn't mind seeing it,"  I agree before a plate of food was placed into my hands. Confused, I looked over to see that Eric and Levi had silently got lunch prepared on the blanket as we talked.  "Thanks"

"So what fairy type are you Shailyn?" Axel asked before taking a large bite of his sandwich.

"A Shadow fairy? Only learned that a couple days ago so don't ask me anything on it."

"That honestly explains so much," Eric says with a snort. "Never met a shadow fairy who wasn't a sassypants."

"I regret to inform you that Shailyn here does not break that statistic," Levi tells him while also grabbing my wrist gently. "Chew what you already have in your mouth before taking another bite please."

With a huff, I did as told.

"Yup, I can see that" Eric smirks.

Axel had been quiet since I told him what fairy I was. He looked at me with an expression that seemed to be a mix of worry, concern, and even pity. The two Griffins had also taken notice and Eric nudged him gently. "You ok there Bud?"

"Yeah," he whispered. "Was curious on the whole need for three guardians thing but, it all makes sense now. Does the council know?"

Levi nodded in confirmation. "Yes, they are aware. We are to meet them in a few days actually."

"Good. The sooner they can get her a mentor the better."

"Y'all do know that I am sitting like, right here correct?" I ask them both with a raised eyebrow.

"Yes I'm aware," Axel says in a serious tone. "I'm also aware that you previously stated you didn't even know you were a shadow fairy until a couple days ago. You should have had a mentor long before you turned 18. If not for your own safety."

"My own safety? What exactly do you mean by that?" I asked with confusion.

"I'm going to let the council answer that question because it is a very heavy topic.  However I would like to ask that Eric and I come with you for support."

"Well that's pretty flippin reassuring." I put my sandwhich down before looking at Levi for answers.

"Little minx, I can't give you the answers you want right now. Let's just say that once you are aware of the powers you have, things aren't going to be the same.  It really is best that you wait for the council to explain it. The three of us will be there with you."

"Then why say anything at all?" I ask, turning back to Axel.

"Because you needed to know that things are going to get rocky. Most importantly, you need to know that I will absolutely not be letting you go through what lies ahead alone. From one fairy to another, I, Axel Hanford accept my role as your guardian. I agree to love, cherish, and protect Shailyn Ransley from this moment forward. I accept my role as Shailyn Ransley's brother."
