Since that day onwards, there was no contact between him and I. There were no annoying text messages, no surprise attacks here and there, no gifts for my mother, or even surprise visits in my house. There was absolutely nothing. Thinking about it now, our schedules are pretty different so we shouldn't have been able to have met each other so often as we had... he was always there waiting for me.
"Wren? Wren, are you listening to me?" I snapped back into reality and looked at Mia. Her face full of concern and confusion. "Wren, you've been spacing out a lot lately... Are you sure you're okay?" I shook my head as she nodded hers still showing her concern. "Anyway, like I've been saying, Marco is a nice guy. I was able to talk to him and you're so lucky to have him as a childhood friend! I mean-" She began to ramble again as I lost myself in my thoughts (again). Why was I thinking about Marco anyway? He has been occupying my thoughts lately which makes no sense at all! "Wren. You're making a funny face." She giggled as I was brought back to reality. That's right. It could just be because Mia is talking about him. That's the case. "Sorry, Mia. You were saying?"
Continuing my day like normal, I began to see that my thoughts would always go back to Marco. Lunch break? Marco's lunches with me. Tutoring? I used to help Marco with math. Mia? Marco again. I couldn't get him off my mind. I sighed as I ate my dinner, mom talking to me about her day. She must have noticed my sigh because the moment I did she asked, "Are you alright, Wren?" Giving a small nod, I started to pick up our plates until she took them from me. "Let me do it this time. You seem to have a lot on your mind today." I shook my head, but she pushed me back down to my seat and the look that said 'Let me do it.' I gave in to her demand and she smiled. She really is persistent when it comes to these kind of things... just like how Marco was. I really don't understand why he keeps appearing in my thoughts. I slumped in my chair trying to think of something else.
"Wren, dear. I know something is wrong. What is it?" She had just finished with the dishes, wiping off the water from her hands. "It's nothing mom. Just a bit tired from today." She definitely wasn't convinced from her child's excuse. A mother knows best and she knew that something was going on. "Wren, you know it's not nice to lie to me," She said as she sat in front of me, "now tell me, what is going on?" I hesitated just a bit. Should I tell her? "Is it about Marco?" Shocked, I looked back at her wide eyes. She must have noticed my shock because she laughed right after. "I'm correct aren't I?" I nodded as she patted me. "That boy hasn't been coming over for a while hasn't he? Did you two fight over something?" I thought over what she had said. I do not exactly remember fighting about anything... He just started to avoid me after talking about Mia. Mia. I remembered how she told me about their meeting and how fun it was to be with him. My heart ached just thinking about them together, which I found unusual.
"I am actually not so sure if we fought. We suddenly found ourselves too busy to be together like before I guess..." She nodded and propped her elbow on the table, her hand holding her head. "Maybe you two should try talking to each other again. You two have always been together since elementary and I think it's a bit weird to suddenly see you two separated. Wait here. I'll try to contact his mom to see if he's there ok?" Absentmindedly, I shook my head in understanding. She went to the landline leaving me to my thoughts once again. I am going to see him again... after so long. I feel so giddy which is a bit surprising seeing as it will just be a reunion, but it's a reunion with him. I can't wait.
My body seemed to have a mind of its own as I stood up and started my way to the door. I cannot wait anymore. I need to see him.
"Wren? His mother told me that they just had the same conversation, it's mother's intuition after all, and said that he's coming this way..."
But it was too late. She was already out the door, her cell on the table and with only one thought in mind.
To find Marco
