Tom Paris, walked through the gates of Starfleet Academy, he was tasked with keeping an eye on Elsa in her first few weeks at the Academy, his mother Admiral Emerald Paris had always told him from the birth of Lauren to the birth of Elsa, that he was the oldest and that it was his job to protect his younger sisters'.
Tom and his sisters' were close, but it made sense there we no brothers for him to be close to besides he always thought that he'd get along with his sisters' better.
Tom kept an eye on Elsa and as the day went on he saw someone walking with her, she had forehead ridges but looked human, so she was only half Klingon, Tom thought she was supposed to look more Klingon but he had heard about some Klingon's male and female who had ancestors that lost their ridges in 2154 and even though they managed to find a way to their forehead ridges back some still had less pronounced cranial ridges than pure or even half Klingon's should have.
"Lauren?" Tom asked as he sit himself next to his sister at lunch, she was doing something for her holo-programing course "hmm?" she said to indicate that she was listening "who's the Klingon/Human?" Tom asked, Lauren glanced in her sister's direction and took a sip of her hot tea before answering "Cadet B'Elanna Torres, she's in Elsa's year" she said, Tom looked at Lauren "Torres? As in John Torres?" he asked.
Being the children of a Fleet Admiral (their mother) and a Vice Admiral (their father) they'd met a lot of Admiral's, John Torres was one of them, Tom didn't know he'd been married to anyone other than his wife Natalya, he also didn't know John had more than two kids.
"Yeah, I was surprised too, she's his eldest daughter" said Lauren "I didn't think he'd been married to anyone other than Nat, I didn't even think that even if he had been, he'd have a kid, other than Amber and Dimitri" said Tom. Lauren finally put down her PADD "yeah, Elsa asked B'Elanna about it and told me, it turns out Admiral Torres couldn't handle living with his ex-wife Miral and as B'Elanna got older and started acting more like Miral he couldn't handle living with two Klingon's his words" said Lauren, Tom scowled, he felt bad for B'Elanna having her father leave her for something that was part of her nature, he also felt bad for Miral, she was acting like Klingon's do, it's not that hard to work out that if you can't handle Klingon's don't marry them.
"Tom you're scowling, someone's annoyed you, is it what I just told you about Torres and his daughter and ex wife?" asked Lauren. Tom nods "well stop scowling" said Lauren, when Elsa joined them with B'Elanna, the three Paris siblings while they weren't triplets, they looked so alike, (they had the same facial features, smile, eyes and hair), that they could actually be considered triplets.
"People weren't kidding when they started whispering in class about how much you all looked alike" said B'Elanna to Elsa "yeah, sadly some of the kids here we've known since we were born" said Elsa making a face, Lauren laughed "well Elly you gonna introduce us?" she asked "probably not, so I'll introduce myself, B'Elanna Torres" she said holding out her hand for Lauren to shake "Lauren Paris, I prefer Laura but at the Academy, Dad insists people call me Lauren, even before I started attending" said Lauren shaking B'Elanna's hand before she turned to Tom shaking his hand "that's Tom, Dad also insists that he be called Thomas" said Lauren, Tom made a face at that.
From that day onwards the group would always eat lunch together "so Lauren how exactly do you pay attention to conversations while looking at that PADD?" B'Elanna asked "I don't know, our Mom can do it and I'm only sibling that can so I might've picked it up off Mom" said Lauren not looking up from her PADD, B'Elanna shook her head with a smile.
It was in the second semester that Lauren and Elsa noticed a change in their brother and best friend's behaviour, Tom and B'Elanna both would stare at each other when the other wasn't looking but it was a stare of attraction.
"So what do you think of my brother?" asked Elsa in one of her and B'Elanna's classes, Elsa swore B'Elanna went slightly pink, "he's nice" said B'Elanna "you're so in love with him" said Elsa, B'Elanna turned to her "if you tell anyone I will personally ensure your death" she hissed, Elsa smirked and told her sister once after lessons "I've got a piloting class with Tom and his grade so I'll make sure I'm partnered with him and ask him" said Lauren.
"Are you in love with B'Elanna?" Lauren asked softly, her brother gaped at her "what?" he asked "you heard me, is it true?" Lauren asked, Tom couldn't answer he just looked at his sister "am I that easy to read?" he asked, Lauren snorted "well not exactly, Elsa noticed it first in B'Elanna and then she noticed it in you and told me, which is when I noticed" said Lauren.
"This is why you should actually focus at lunch and not look at PADD all the time" said Tom "well what're you gonna do about it?" Lauren asked, Tom shrugged, he hadn't thought that far ahead, Lauren huffed "well do something quickly, I hear Maxwell Burke is after her" said Lauren. Tom knows all about Maxwell Burke, he often played women sometimes though on rare occasions he'd actually love them, he seemed to be the kind of person to genuinely love B'Elanna, so Tom decided things would go the way that fate decreed.
"Good for him" said Tom shrugging. In their last term of the second semester, Maxwell and B'Elanna started dating, around that same time, Tom started dating Susie Crabtree which annoyed Elsa and Lauren a lot both of whom wanted Tom and B'Elanna together, "Tom seriously, why not date B'Elanna?" Lauren asked "things will go the way they should" said Tom shrugging, Lauren and Elsa shared a look of exasperation at their brother and B'Elanna's not wanting to date even though they loved each other.
