FIREFLY

Firefly didn't miss Brightness.

Brightness wasn't mean. She didn't judge Firefly. She was definitely not boring.

But somehow...the mere presence of the strange NightWing was almost creepy. Her light violet eyes would seem to read her soul, piercing into her mind, almost looking through her and seeing things that most dragons couldn't see.

Perhaps she was a mindreader. But Firefly didn't think so. She didn't have the same aura as Moonwatcher, or even Visioner.

But Firefly admitted that she and Brightness had gotten along pretty well. They were almost similar in many ways.

I guess Brightness was just...interesting.

Firefly's new clawmate, Truthseeker, was almost the complete opposite of Brightness. She was loud, funny, bright, and also a mindreader.

Mindreaders made Firefly very uncomfortable. The thought of someone reading her mind made her feel a bit protective.

Well, it's better than sharing a cave with Brightness, I guess.

JASMIN

"And that's how you pin someone down when you get ambushed. Any questions?"

Jasmin released the struggling MudWing from underneath her, searching the group of dragonets for any raised talons.

"Alright. Class over. Go away now."

Trailing after the students, Jasmin arrived at the prey center. She grabbed a chicken that was running for its life and flapping its wings madly. With a quick swipe, she easily killed the chicken.

Chicken was one of Eclipse's favorite foods. I wonder where she went. I hope she's alright.

The silver-and-black ocelot who had disappeared when Jasmin had been attacked by Queen Wasp hadn't appeared anywhere. Firefly had told Jasmin that Eclipse had tried to kill her, but failed.

That isn't something Eclipse would do. Maybe she was animus-cursed. No, animus magic disappeared years ago.

Jasmin frowned, suddenly realizing something.

If animus magic doesn't exist anymore...then how was a feather able to turn into Wasp?

The thought made her feel sick.

Maybe the murderer is an animus.

Well, that makes things even harder than they were before.
