Wilbur's POV
learning how to walk was one of those things that would seem so easy, but it's not. The legs that are on these.. people are much more difficult to understand and merhandle than our tails. That might also be because sense I was born I was forced into swimming, and I'm learning how to walk as a tall humanoid creature, standing fairly tall compared to the sides of this machine. There was so many things that you can feel and learn how to move, that my fave and chest must be bruised from the hard material and my skin slapping against it with every trip and fall I had.
I don't think these cloths that Schaltt gave me did well for the learning how to walk propaganda. They were really big, at least on me. For me, it was like wearing my father's kelp cutting belt, while for him it.would be like brass for my mother. Useless by how tight they were. I mean, he had more meat on his thighs. They were much bigger--thicker than my own. Each hair was noticeable and coated his leg with this dark tint, and in all seriousness, they wernt even that bad to feel and touch either. It had a soft yet rough feel to them.
"Is walking really that difficult?"
My knees buckled together and I fell right into the side of the boat. This time, instead of using my belly and chest as padding for my heavy, bony body, I used my hands to brace. I looked down at my reflection being distorted by the light ripples in thr water from the movements I created.
"Oh shut up I'm sure you walked around shittimg yourself as a flicking child." I shot my head up to glare at the boy, that went stiff, hands raised.
"Jesus okay. Fucks sake calm down. We've been out here for an hour and you're still buckling up."
He hasn't been able to understand the slightest thing that I've spoken, so having an actual response to my version of English was terrifying to say the least. Confusing at the most. Why was that? Was it like when I was a child and during a lot of my temper tantrums I would actually blurt out words? Or maybe he was just doing a reaction to me and the anger I spilled. I'm an idiot.
"You can understand me?"
The man shrugged, and brought his hand up to wave it back and forth. So, he could understand a little bit. That answers the hesitancy whenever he talks to me. I throw myself back up, and surprisingly I don't fall. My feet and legs are actually working for me. But the third in the middle was difficult with how my times I'll fall and trush whatever sits beneath. It hurts.
"Look, William. Can you help me out with something?"
I rose an eyebrow at his request. I bit my lip and probably seemed more angry than anything else. He shivered and looked out at the water, causing the machine to tilt in the slightest. The slightest movement causing me to just lose balance and topple right over the edge. There was a large splash, but really it was quick before I got my tail back and I was returned to the warmth and comfort of the water under me. I sunk to let water wet my gills as he co tinted to speak.
"Shit.. my fucking clothes.."
He reached down and picked up some of the wet, and much smaller peices of cloth. I guess the transformation and inhuman attributes I carry ripped the clothing I was in. Really, it was only his shorts, so it shouldn't matter anyways, Right?
"Look, William. Can you help me find some fish? I know you're a fish or whatever but it's my job and reeling brings me money. And, I can't find any. Come on, I'll help you back up."
His arms lowered and spread, into probably the warmest and sweetest embrace ice ever been invited to in my life. His arms were so big they could just.. wrap around me probably twice. They were so muscular and the hair was thick there.. He was using me for work, ans hopefully I won't have a knife slide down the center of my throat.
I raise my arms, and wrap them around the boy's neck. and just as I expected, his arms were warm fkr the cold weather. But I felt him tense, and grow strong from what the chub can appear as. Swiftly and slowly, he pulled me out of the water. It was beautiful, really.. He lifted me as I'd I was nothing.. but let the shimmering of my scales reflect and cast off the beautiful colour that represented me, and maybe a little bit of this boy.
Gold.
