The verdict even if it was predicted, and reassured came with whispers in the courtroom, and I could tell that there was very little surprise from those present as family witness, and also complete shock from the defendants who believed that they were going to get away with it all.
Several hours later I still was replaying the finale in my head even while getting dressed for the dinner that we were all going to attend. The media questions had been a tsunami in response to knowing that the trial had been won, and even if they wanted to know all the details, they weren't going to get them. It had also gotten all of our buildings surrounded by media even though Nico and Kate were saved just because they lived two hours out of the city if one drove normally which none of us followed traffic laws and both Nico, Kate, and Olivia would do that drive in an hour or less.
The most amusing part was that Olivia often voided Adrian's car rule when he was away, and I had my suspicions she didn't do it to be disrespectful but rather that he couldn't be mad at her for it.
And the two had sex once a month at a minimum.
That hadn't been a nice thing to learn about though my history as a player had meant I learnt what makeup over a hickey or the flushed, or slightly swollen features of people looked like after doing the deed. Any other observation I had was purged as fast as I could get it the first time I'd seen the scratch marks on Adrian's back.
The two of them will either burn this city down, or mold it to what they wanted.
"Hunty," Mia calls and I sigh in mild annoyance at the nickname I'd never escape, but was unable to resist the smile that sprang over my lips at the sound of her voice. Nico and Adrian worried I'd hurt her, that I'd used her kindness and appreciative nature but then I looked at her and there was nothing but the suffocating desire to hold her close to me, and never let her go.
She was also tiny even considering that I was just barely above average height. Five-four and not one bit of imperfection. Mia was also the one person who never let me get away with anything, or allow me to become anything but better. She grounded me more then even my own mother who had been over to our house many times in the past few weeks and had begun coming over to have dinner with Mia and I every Wednesday.
"Yes my love," I reply and she appeared at the bottom of the stairs in a dark satin blue dress before doing a spin and I couldn't help but be reminded Mia was barely nineteen.
"How do I look?" she asks a smile of glee on her face as she asked me the question.
"How do you feel you look?" I ask she stared at me for a moment.
"Based on how you're looking at me, gorgeous," she says and I nodded slowly pulling her to me.
"More then any other girl on this planet could dream of being, also what are we taking?" I ask and she goes to the bowl which had a mix of all of the keys and pulled out a Rolls Royce key which probably belonged to the Wraith since the Cullinan had a different shaped fob.
The two of us then got into the elevator and I noticed the French knot bun she'd done after braiding the sides of her hair. I also took in the neat sandy coloured cloth section around the middle of the dress making her look more feminine then she often was.
Getting down to the garage I unlocked the Wraith and the two of us got in before I started the car and rolled away towards the restaurant that I'd booked with Riley's help, since he'd been babbling about food for nearly an hour after the trial ended.
Looking around New York at night made me wonder just how much of all of the buildings around me knew about how the city even worked. It made me wonder how invested they got when events that weren't global news happened, if they paid any attention to the small details like the trial that had ended. How many TV's had my face and the rest of us on it tonight, and how soon would we vanish once more because of a foreign war or policy.
Heading towards Daniel which was a particular restaurant that I knew was excellent but it was also a place that we all remembered being the last place that the first CEO and COO of what was then Winters Enterprises, had dinner before dying instantly in a car accident in front of Adrian. It wasn't a place he so much as glanced at, nor did he ever buy a Jaguar, that specific trauma ran too deep for him.
Pulling around the corner I spotted a shiny black Chiron roll to a stop beside the restaurant and Olivia climb out while another man climbed from the passenger seat, the plain dark suit and sunglasses eased the flicker of shock that he was merely a bodyguard while Adrian and Elijah weren't in New York.
Parking behind them I heard Nico and Riley before I saw them while Nico's R8 parked along the curb in front of the Chiron and Riley stopped behind me in whatever American sports car he chose.
As all of us entered the restaurant I quickly gave my name and we were brought off to a far corner of the room all while Olivia's bodyguard got a separate table to oversee the entire room. While we sat and talked among one another mostly about the trial and how we were glad it was over I felt my phone buzz several times but I ignored it since were all out at a dinner and even if past me would have answered immediately I wasn't willing to break up the night with a phone call. It was also not business hours for me that continued tomorrow.
I then hear Nico's phone ding and he raises his eyebrows before picking up his phone from the table and peers at it looking mostly annoyed until his eyebrows knit together and typed something before waving his phone slightly to me and I lifted my phone from my pocket to see forwarded images from Adrian all of them of him, then Olivia, and then of all of us in places such as our homes, and even at places we would hide our movements too.
What the fuck.
I then tapped out of the images and stared at the one word instruction from him. Leave.
"Olivia," I say and she looks to me looking concerned and clearly having picked up on the exchange between Nico and I.
"Get your bodyguard to take you to the penthouse, the main one, Adrian just texted me saying to leave. We can leave right now my card is on file for this night," I say and slowly and casually we stood and began to cast remarks about the food around though I knew that the bodyguard knew and that was why he stood and left ahead of us before we exited the restaurant and my eyes met an older vehicle that didn't seem like it belonged in this part of the city, but I also didn't trust anyone I could see and the fact I saw no one disturbed me more.
Everyone then climbed into their cars and left one by one all while I watched Mia give me a look to explain more, but I couldn't not while driving, it would fog my brain too much to focus on what I'd seen, and the information those photos provided.
Alrighty more stalker photos also I will mention because I have so many books planned, I intend to write an intense dark romance at some point down the road, when it'll happen I'm not sure. Comment, vote, and share. AnywaysPeace✌
