Hunter AmbroseWalking out of the ritzy Lower Manhattan restaurant me and my dozen executives had lunch I spotted the white Maserati along the curb and the man sitting in the crimson leather seats white the first traces of snow fell from the sky over New York, and quickly turned into slush in the gutters that still hadn't drained the dreary rain that had fallen over the city last night.
Riley's round sunglasses rested on the end of his nose while staring at the ceiling, music playing softly from the convertibles speakers which made me wonder why he'd chosen the one vehicle he owned that was a convertible for the one day this month it would snow.
"Hunter, I need to speak to you," he says, and I don't bother questioning why he knew where I had lunch, when he probably asked my assistant who knew that Riley often called since the two of us were incredibly close with our working schedules, and the things we devoted our energy towards.
"Okay, can we do it back at Ambrose Enterprises, I don't want to be snowed on," I say placing my hand on the roof of his car.
"Yes, I'd rather park this in a garage anyways," he replies and I step back as he rolled up the passenger window. I then moved towards my car and climbed into the Urus's driver seat before heading off towards the HQ of my business. Glancing into the mirror I watched Riley follow after me as we traveled through the city. I didn't know what it could have been that Riley knew about that required him coming to find me so that we could talk but I wasn't too sure I'd like it since he had looked worried at best, and not a single joke had left his mouth.
He and I were often too unproffessional to be around the people that we did business with but when it was a quick short exchange I'd just expected a problem that I wouldn't like. In this case, I was wonder what had caused Riley to become so austere in demeanor, I was used to the cheeriness that he almost leaked into the world. It likely made his staff happy and was also part of the good atmosphere of Niles Law & Co but that didn't mean that it was a permanent fixture of his behaviours. Riley was afterall a top tier attorney, and believed to be one of the best in the whole country. In many ways he'd been promoted more then even top movie stars who lived in this city.
That also meant he wasn't often disturbed, or offset, so the fact he was by whatever it was that he'd learned to be a present difficulty or complication, especially if it included him and I made me worry during the duration of the drive to Ambrose Engineering.
Getting back to my company, I got both Riley and I access into the garage level before the two of us found parking spots, and climbed out while Riley's eyes darted around the concrete space to the elevator I was instinctively moving towards.
Pressing the summon button Riley begins to speak.
"Adrian told me he knows who the stalker is, and that they are planning an information leak on all of us," he begins, and I gaze at him for a moment trying to figure out what hed said. I wasn't fantastic at paying attention since I was consistently distracted with a million things at once.
"What could they possibly have on all of us. Not one of us has public movements in terms of our business practices, and what we even do with our money. All of us don't even have public net worth," I point out as the doors opened and we stepped inside.
"Just that business practices. The point has to be to leak what we do which would immediately cause investigations into the growing success we all have. This was all a game someone else was playing with us as the pawns," Riley comments and then I registered that he'd been told by Adrian.
"He has a plan, Adrian has a plan, always has when it comes to things like this," I say my voice gaining an edge of excitement, and amusement.
"He mentioned making sure we all were covering ourselves and that he was needing the knowledge of if we have by the time of the Charity Gala," Riley says and I nod thinking of the hundreds of jobs in the past year I'd done and my company had assisted or primarily done in that timeframe.
"What could be so horrible that we have to cover our asses," I say and then it clicked. Adrian knew everything that the person could try and use against us, so I had a feeling that he knew how to stop any proof to make it seem like the person had made up the allegations that would be brought up.
"Spinning information isn't just Adrian's specialty many other people have, and the woman known as Grace Haskall is behind it. Looking back she made millions from private agreements in courtrooms," Riley says, "revealing everything in the largest collection of the elites would cause a large amount of distrust for them towards us".
"That would do it," I agree before the elevator dinged and in an instant Riley swapped topics.
"So your construction projects are completely underway for patent trends, they will be sent off tonight at the latest, and all other contracts are approved for progress into December and the new year," he says as he and I walked to my office.
"Perfect, I appreciate getting that done as quickly as possible," I say and Riley nods while I shut the frosted glass door behind me.
"Of course," he says positioning himself so his words couldn't be lipsynced of anyone could see his head. "Get your total report to Adrian, I'm sure he'll have it all figured out by the time we're all dancing in that hall," Riley adds leaning on my desk.
"Okay, I'll get started on it and send it to him as soon as I can, I'm guessing you've already done yours," I say and Riley nodded.
"I have, makes me feel like a detective doing this. Like I'm Sherlock Holmes," he remarks with a boyish smile and I just laugh and shake my head.
"Go back to your law firm, I have to get back to work," I say with breathy amusement and he flicks the pen on my desk causing it to spin as he made his exit.
"See you at the Gala, Hunty," he bids and I let out a sigh as he left my office.
I'll never escape that damn nickname.
It's short , dammit, I'll try and get the rest to be long bit I won't promise much, comment, vote, and share. AnywaysPeace✌️
