Chapter 3: What is Love?

"I'm gonna see her again..." Y/n sighed as he turned off his car and exited. He had just arrived at the university for another day of work yet apparently something never left his mind. The kiss the night before, an action still engraved on Y/n's mind.

It was a quiet walk for Y/n, too quiet for his own good. He always loved walking around the university but the silence felt deafening, the silence felt like it was killing him. The silence made him think about the interaction he had the night before. He's overthinking the scene too much, second by second, frame by frame, he for his own good cannot forget it.

"Focus, Y/n... It was a friendly gesture by her. Nothing much more than that." Y/n said to himself as he looked at his watch and went to his room.

The day started for the students and faculty. It was another day of numbers and chalkdust for Y/n. The same old, same old... Not like he's gonna complain about it.

It was a long morning for him, countless lectures all in all. But he's clearly doing one thing and that's to avoid Nayeon.

Lunchtime came around as Jihyo met with Y/n.

"Hey, Y/n!" Jihyo said as she patted the man on his back.

"Hey-"

Y/n looked at the end of the hallway and saw a rushing Nayeon going towards them. The boy then looked at Jihyo frantically, "I can't go to lunch with you guys today. I've got something to do."

Y/n then ran off, something he never does or at least not the usual for Jihyo. Nayeon then reached Jihyo and panted, catching her breath.

"Hey-" Nayeon said, still trying to catch her breath.

"What's the rush?" Jihyo chuckled.

"Well, I was in the lab and thought that maybe you guys would have lunch without me." Nayeon responded, now having a steady hold on her breath.

"I'm still having lunch today. Y/n was also in a rush though." Jihyo said

Nayeon frowned, "Why can't he come with us today?"

"He said he had something to do. Knowing him, it's probably more research or a meeting with other researchers from other universities." Jihyo explained.

"I- I see..." Nayeon sighed, she thinks Y/n hadn't told Jihyo about the kiss. She knew she stepped on a line. Even if it was a friendly kiss, she doesn't know even to herself what the point of that was. Was it to make Y/n fall for her? Or was it so that she can make Y/n realize they have a shared past? Nayeon unfortunately doesn't know the answer to this conjecture.

"Why, have something to tell him?" Jihyo said, implying it in a very mischievous manner.

"No! Let's just meet up with Dahyun." Nayeon said as Jihyo nodded and the duo then started the walk to the University canteen.

–Meanwhile–

Y/n wanted a place where he can just stop thinking. He thought of places to be but in the end, he decided to go to the place where he thinks the most, the library.

The university's library is way bigger than that of the school of Momo and Sana. It was also quieter in nature as on one side Y/n only saw fellow professors finding books and on the other he saw students, napping or rushing projects and schoolworks.

"Good afternoon, Mr L/n." Students said as the professor walked to a table and sat down.

Y/n opened his book and just started reading. It was always a way for him to relax, to forget about the world around him. He felt at peace now, albeit being stared at by some students who traumatically didn't receive good grades from him. He always gets those kinds of stares though, something he's already used to.
