Your P.O.V.
I placed the flowers down on the grass as I read my brother's name on the tombstone. A year had already passed since he left, and up until now my heart aches whenever I think of him.
They say I should be happy that he isn't here struggling anymore. That he's safer and happier up there where kind souls go. But I miss him a lot... When I go to bed and remember how he used to come say "Good night, princess" to me even though he could just go straight to his room and sleep. How he would always stand up for me in front of our parents, knowing that they always listened to him.
Oftentimes, I would wonder how he would be leading his life if he hadn't gotten sick. How would he be as a hardworking doctor? How old would he be when he gets married? Will I be a cool aunt for his children?
Those questions disappeared into thin air every time I reminded myself that he's gone. That he won't be there to greet me before going to sleep, or even defend me from the harsh treatment by our parents. That I'd have to live the rest of my life without seeing him ever again.
After a while of just sitting by his grave, I went back home to prepare for school tomorrow. It was the first day of school, and I was more than determined to prove my parents that I could be just like my brother.
"I'm home." I greeted after closing the door behind me.
"Where have you been?" my father asked.
"I went to visit-"
"Have you prepared your things for school tomorrow?" I sighed as mom interrupted.
"Yes, mom."
"Good. It's your first day, don't forget what you must do." she added.
Great.
"How was your vacation?" Chaewon asked in a cheery voice as she sat down beside me.
"Well, I've been coping better." I smiled.
"And your parents?" she asked.
"Oh, don't even get me started." I rolled my eyes and groaned.
Just as Chaewon was about to speak again, we heard murmurs from our classmates and loud talking from the hall.
"God, it's so noisy. This is irritating-"
I cut myself off when the door opened and a beautiful, gorgeous girl came in. There were other students from outside peeking in as she took a seat in front. She had long, black hair and was tall.
"Oh God..." I mumbled to myself as I watched her put her bag down.
When one of our classmates approached her from behind, I saw her smile. Oh my God, she even has that cute little dimple...
"Hey, Y/n! I'm talking to you!" I snapped out of my thoughts when Chaewon nudged me again and again.
"What?" I asked.
"Weren't you listening? Are you too busy fawning over that girl?" she whined.
"Excuse me, no I wasn't." I cleared my throat and looked away.
"Oh really? She's beautiful though, don't you agree?" she snickered.
"Obviously. Can't you see those students peeking from the hallway just to look at her?" I scoffed.
