Chapter 2: The Prelude Before The Race

At The Racer's Edge

John was racing back there as he parks and rushes inside.

John got in and heard Harry say "Hey, Dominic, I appreciate what you did in a big way. Dominic, I owe you."

Harry walks over to John and says "Brian, you're messing with my business. When Dominic drives, he's golden."

They then walked to the back and Harry continues "Kids pour in here, they want everything he has, every performance part, and they pay cash!"

John uses the sink to splash water on his face and asks "What did Dominic say?"

Harry said, "You don't wanna know."

John finishes and shouts "What did Dominic say?"

Harry says "He wants you out of here."

John asked, "He wants me out of here?"

Harry yells "Yes!"

John asks "And what did you say to Dom?" as he takes off his shirt to change it.

Harry says "What do you think I said? I told him good help is hard to find."

John was putting on his shirt and says "Hey, Relax."

John looks at the wall and says "I need NOS. I need NOS" as he walks out.

Harry saw him and says "No." and follows after him.

John said, "My car topped out at 140 miles per hour this morning."

Harry stops John and says "Amateurs don't use nitrous oxide. I've seen the way you drive. You got a heavy foot. You'll blow yourself to pieces."

John looks at the big tank and says "I need one of these. One of the big ones. Actually, no, let's make it two. And, Harry, I need it by tonight."

Later at Night

At an abandoned building

John drove to the car meet and parked his car.

John got out and looked at the car next to him.

John looks around as he hears music playing around him.

John had his hands in his pockets, then he saw a guy walk up to him and say "Sweet ride. What you running under there, man?"

John smirks at him and the guy asks "You gonna make me find out the hard way?"

John nods and says "Hell, yeah."

The guy says "You brave. You brave. They call me Hector I got a last name, too, but I can't pronounce it, so."

John says "Brian O'Conner"

Hector shakes John's hand and says "Yeah, typical white boy name. You know what I'm saying?"

Hector points to a car and asks "See that over there? That's mine. It's my baby. But I ain't cutting her loose tonight."

John asked, "Why not?"

Hector said, "It's 'cause I'm going legit, homie. Trying to get on NIRA circuit. You heard about that?"

John nods and says "Hell, yeah."

Hector nodded and said, "Yeah, yeah. So, what's up with you, man?"

John said, "I'm just waiting for Toretto."

Then a black guy walked over and said, "Shit. Better get in line. This yours?" referring to the car.

John says "Yeah, I'm standing next to it."

The guy says "You know, Edwin happens to know a few things."

John saw Hector shake his head as Edwin continues to say "And one of the things Edwin knows is it's not how you stand by your car. It's how you race your car. You better learn that."

Then the group heard engines roaring as the cars from before at Toretto's Market and Cafe pull up with a new car in the middle.

Edwin said, "Ah, shit. Here they come. It's on."

John then saw Toretto and his crew stop their cars and get out as Ladies walk up to each other them.

John sighs as he gets ready to walk over and use his car to get in the race

John heard Dom say "One race, $2,000 buy in Winner takes all. Hector, you're gonna hold the cash."

A man asks "Why Hector?"

Edwin says "'Cause he's too slow to make away with the money, man."

Hector gave a fake smile then it went away as he looks at Edwin.

Dom said, "Okay, good luck, guys."

John walks over and says "Hey, wait, hold up. I don't have any cash, but I do have the pink slip to my car."

Jesse said, "Hey, you just can't climb in the ring with Ali, 'cause you think you box."

John smiles points at Vince and says "He knows I can box. So check it out, it's like this. I lose, the winner takes my car, clean and clear. But if I win, I take the cash, and I take the respect."

A lot of the guy laugh and Dom said, "Respect."

John looks at Dom and says "To some people, that's more important."

Dom saw the green eclipse and asks "That your car?"

A lot of people group around John's car and when Jesse opens his hood, everyone exclaims as they saw everything in his car.

Jesse says "I see a cool air intake. It's got a NOS foger system and a T4 Turbo, Dominic. I see an AIC control there. It has direct port nitrous injection."

Dom scratches his arm and says "Yeah, and a stand-alone fuel management system. Not a bad way to spend $10,000."

Edwin looked in the car and asks "You see that shit? He's got enough NOS in there to blow himself up, period."

Dom says "Yeah."

John asks "So, what do you say? Am I worthy?"

Dom said, "We don't know yet. But you're in. Let's go."

Everyone walks away to their cars, and Jesse closes John's hold.

Then Everyone drives away to start the race.
