Chapter 4: The Meeting

The Next Day

With John

John was in the truck for Harry's, and when he drove past an area, he heard sirens.He pulled over and hears a cop say "Show me your hands. Very good. Now open the door."

John puts his hand out the window and opened the door from the outside and walked out with his hands up as he closed the door.

A cop said, "Put your hands on your head. Behind your head. Face the frot of the vehicle walk backwards towards the rear."

John did everyone he asked and he heard "Take two steps to your right. Stop right there." as he did what he was told.

John then was searched and asks "What'd I do?"

Another cop said, "Shut up. He's clean, Sarge." as John was handcuffed behind his back.

Later

John was taken to a house further out of Los Angeles, and once the car stopped and was let out, he says "Damn! Muse, will you take these things off? I mean, shit, you put them on so tight."

Muse said, "I like realism."

John then saw Murtaugh was the one who was called Sarge who said, "You never know who's watching, Riggs."

John saw the place once they entered and said, "Wow. Nice crib, Rog. It's a lot nicer than that last place Cap confiscated."

Murtaugh said, "Ain't it? You know, Eddie Fisher built this house for Elizabeth Taylor in the '50s."

John looks at Muse behind him and said, "You see, even the cops are Hollywood in Hollywood."

The group laughed as they walked past the pool.

Murtaugh says "Okay, here he is. Fresh from Toretto's hot rod heaven."

Bilkins said to John, "That was an $80,000 vehicle, detective."

John looks at Murtaugh and said, "Wait a minute. You tell him what happened, Rog?"

Murtaugh said, "He knows what happened, Riggs."

John says "Hey, you know what? Why don't you send the bill to Johnny Tran."

Murtaugh says "Riggs."

Bilkins said, "The kid's giving me attitude? That doesn't speak very well for police-FBI relations, Murtaugh."

John looks at Murtaugh and says "I mean, come on, what is this? I walked in the door and the guy's already giving me..."

Murtaugh says "All right, all right, all right. We'll talk, okay, Riggs? Let's talk about it. Muse, why don't you make us four iced cappuccinos, please."

Murtaugh then pulled John into the other room.

Muse asked, "Regular or decaf, Sarge?"

Murtaugh looks at Muse and says "Decaf. I think."

Later

Bilkins had started the meeting as Murtaugh and John take sips from their cappuccinos.

Bilkins said, "Four hijackings in two months and we don't have anything. DVD players and digital cameras alone are worth $1.2 millions, which brings the grand total to $6 million plus."

Murtaugh says "We're in the political crosshairs now, Riggs. That's why you're undercover."

Bilkins said, "If you help us, the FBI can help you, Detective."

John asked, "What does the truck driver say?"

Murtaugh says "He gave us the same MO. Three Honda Civics, precision driving, the same green neon glow from under the chassis. Lab says the skid marks came back the same. Mashimoto ZX tires. So we know that it's somebody in the street racing world."

Bilkins says "We don't make this case soon the truckers will take matters into their own hands. I told them we're close. You gonna make me a liar?"

John asked, "Look, what do we know? We all know this world revolves around Toretto, right? Now, I'm not saying that he's necessarily the one that's popping these trucks, but I can guarantee the both of you that he knows who is. It's just a matter of time until I win..."

Bilkins interrupts "You want time, buy the magazine. We don't have time. Just get me something I can use."

A couple of minutes later

Murtaugh and John left the house and Murtaugh asked, "Is Harry cooperating?"

John said, "Yeah, like a guy that's gonna do three to five for receiving stolen property if he doesn't."

Murtaugh asks "What kind of vibe is he getting from Toretto?"

John says "He's scared to death of him, but he doesn't think he's jacking trucks in his spare time, either. He's too controlled for that."

Murtaugh stopped John and says "Wait, Riggs. Not that I want to contradict Harry's fine judge of character, but Toretto did hard time for nearly beating a guy to death. He's got nitrous oxide in his blood and a gas tank for a brain. Do not turn your back on him."

John stops Murtaugh and says "Hey, Rog, I'm gonna need another car."
