Chapter 8: The Date With Mia

Later

At Cha Cha Cha

John was sitting at a table with Mia and asks "So, how is it, anyways, that the gang came to be?"

Mia chuckles and asks "The what?"

John said, "The gang."

Mia says "The gang? No, they don't call themselves a gang."

John asked, "Well, what do they call themselves then?"

Mia said, "They're a team. They call themselves a team."

John says "All right, so how is it that the team came to be?"

Mia looks down and says "Well, that's a whole lot of history,"

John looks at the table, back at her, and says "Well, I've got time."

Mia said, "Okay, Vince grew up with my brother. Actually, he didn't ever actually grow up as you can tell, but they were friends as kids. And Letty, she just... She lived down the street. Always into cars, though. Ever since she was like 1-years old. So, naturally, you know, my brother always had her attention. And she turned 16..."

John interrupts "And then she had Dom's attention."

Mia nods and says "Yeah. Yeah, it's funny how that works, isn't it? Yeah."

John asks "How is it that Jesse fits into the whole thing?"

Mia chuckled and said, "Jesse? Well, Jesse and Leon just sort of showed up one night and never ever left. Well, it's just the way my brother is, though, you know? Dom's like... He's like gravity. You know, everything just get pulled to him. Even you."

John says "Mmm-mmm. No. No. The only thing that pulled me in was you. Being friends with your brother is just a bonus."

Mia laughs at that and says "That's good. That's... It's good. It's nice to come first every once in a while."

Both of them stare into each other's eyes for a little bit, then Mia interrupts their staring "Want to go for a drive?"

Later

On the road

Mia was driving her race car,

She drove past a car, then did a u-turn by drifting to the other side and driving forward on the other side of the road.

Cars were honking behind them, and John looked at Mia, and she started to laugh at the look at on his face.

At night

In the back room of Harry's place

John and Mia were in bed together.

John got a call and answers and says "Yeah."

Murtaugh over the phone said, "The hijackers have hit again. Bilkins has made his decision. We're gonna move on Johnny Tran and his guys at 1700 hours. Unless you say otherwise. If you agree, just say yes."

John says "Yeah." and he ended the call.

Mia got up and asked, "Who is that?"

John looks at her after setting his phone down and says "It's just a wrong number."

They lock eyes and John smiles and says "Hi"

John then cups her right cheek and brought her in for a kiss.

Then they deepen the kiss as they lay back down, and she wraps her arms around him, and rubs his back as they kiss.

The next day

At night

At the Safe House

After arresting Johnny Tran, John had finally gotten to the safe house.

And he heard Bilkins on the phone say "Yes, sir. Yeah, I know, but... Yeah, Yeah. Yes. Yes, sir. Yeah, I got it."

John and Murtaugh were just listening to it as he ended the phone call.

John and Murtaugh were also looking in different direction.

Bilkins walks over and says "The DVD players were purchased legally. All we've got on Tran and company are a couple of low-rent weapons charges and some outstanding speeding tickets."

Murtaugh shakes his head and says "So, they're out."

Bilkins said, "Yeah. Father bailed them out. Is this the kind of intelligence I can expect from you, Riggs?"

John turns to Bilkins and says "You're gonna put this on me?"

Bilkins says "I can put it on whoever I want to, kid. Perks of the job,"

John said, "No, there's no way you're gonna put this on me."

Bilkins says "No, wait a minute. Wait a minute. Let me tell you. I don't care if you have to put a gun to someone's head and blow your cover to smithereens. You've got 36 house to crack this bastard or you might want to be thinking about another career."

Bilkins walked away and John walked out of the safe house.

John was looking at the pool then he hears a voice say "It's Toretto, Riggs. It always has been Toretto.

John turns to see his partner Murtaugh looking at him.

John steps closer to the edge as he looks into the water.

Murtaugh says "Tran and Hector are... They're just fumes."

Murtaugh walks over to John and said, "Well, I know you've been lying to me, Riggs. My question is this, have you been lying to yourself because you can't see past Mia?"

John looks at his partner and says "He won't go back to prison, Rog."

Murtaugh nods and says "Well, that's a choice he's going to have to make. There's all kinds of family, Riggs And that's a choice you're gonna have to make. I know you care for me... Trish... Rianna... RJ... Hell, even Palmer. But, you have to follow what your heart is saying Riggs. I know it's been heard since Liz. But, I'll always be here for you."

Murtaugh taps John's shoulder and walks back in the house

John just stares at the water in the pool as Murtaugh leaves him.
