Jade POV

TW: Self Harm

March 17th, 2009

10:14 AM

I walk through the giant doors of the restaurant, tying my apron tightly around my waist. I look up and see Evelyn doodling at the hostess stand. "Good morning sunshine." she says, sounding almost annoyed.

"Hey Ev..." I reply, yawning. I look down at her scribble of intricate wildflowers, covering the page of her notebook. "Marco wants to see you in his office." she says nervously. "Great..." I murmur under my breath. I ponder about what I could be in trouble for this time. Being late again most likely.

I take my time walking to Marcos's office, terrified he'd fire me. I need this job, really bad. I softly knock on his door. It has big bold letters spelling out MANAGER scrawled across it. Very intimidating. "Come in." he calls out. I take a big breath in and out and carefully open the door. "Have a seat please." he says without looking up from his paperwork. I sit nervously. He looks up, sensing my tension.

"So! Allison's last day is Friday, so I will be able to give you the rest of her shifts for the month, and also bump up your hours. That is, if you'd like." I sigh a breath of relief. "Yeah, that sounds great actually, thank you so much!"

"Good, I'll start re-making the schedules. You can go clock in and start taking tables." he says with a half smile.

I make my way to the door but not without thanking him again. I step out of the office and shut the door in front of me. As I turn around, I'm hit with what feels like a brick wall. I fall to the floor, scraping my knees on the hard concrete. "Ouch..." I gasp to myself. I suddenly see a hand extend out in front of me.

I raise my head and I'm greeted with a tall, muscular guy with black cornrows, his forehead covered up with a matching black bandanna. His eyes, dark and cold. He gives me a once over, his face emotionless. "I'm so sorry, I didn't see you." I blurt out. My eyes shift behind him, there are three other guys with him. One looks almost identical to the one I bumped into. His hair is short with the sides shaved, I notice a piercing on his right brow. He looks as though he's holding in laughter. The other two stand to either side of him, to the left, a brown, long haired man, looking annoyed. And to the right, a short haired blonde guy, looking down at his watch as if he were late to something.

My eyes travel back to Cornrows, who stares at me coldly. " Watch where you're going." he says in a deep, almost scary voice. He lets go of my hand and gently pushes me away from the door, and knocks. "What a dick." I think to myself as I scurry back to the hostess stand.

"Hey Jade..." Ev started. "Did you see those guys who wanted to see Marco?"

"Yeah, why do you ask?" I reply, looking at her, puzzled. "They were cute huh? I think the blonde was the cutest." she says as she giggles to herself. "Ehh, the cornrows guy was kind of a dick." I say, unconsciously rolling up the sleeves of my undershirt. Evelyn sighs as her eyes gaze at my left forearm. "I thought you were gonna stop." She says quietly. She must have seen the confused look on my face, she gestures to my arm. "Oh..right.." I say looking down. I roll my sleeves back down, hoping no one else saw. "I forgot..J dumped me the other day, he said some pretty nasty things, I guess it must have gotten to me." I look down at my feet and sigh.

"That piece of shit made you do this again?? You want me to fuck him up for you?" She says jokingly while flexing her biceps. I chuckle, "Nah, he's not worth it." I clock in and keep chatting with Ev when the four guys walk past us.

Cornrows looks down at me, his eyes still cold. He gives me a smirk as they leave the building. I look at Ev, she's blushing extra hard. "That's the guy I smacked into," I start. "His eyes, so cold and empty. I don't think I'll ever forget them."
