TW: Mentions of Self Harm

The driver pulls up to the club, and I pull out a crisp twenty as I exit the car and tell them to keep the change. I text Ev to tell her I had arrived. She messages back a few seconds later, saying she would wait for me by the door.

The bouncer checks my ID and lets me into the thumping building. The air smells musty and damp. I look up from my phone and see Ev, waiting for me exactly where she said she'd be. She takes me by the hand and leads me to our table.

I see Allison and a few other people from work. She stands up and we exchange a quick hug while I congratulate her on her new job. I sit down next to Ev, who has a drink ready for me. She knows me so well. I throw it back and engage in the conversation.

We talk for what seems like forever, stopping for brief moments for more drinks. My eyes wander to our surroundings. I look at all the people, dancing, drinking, and having fun. My eyes are assaulted by the flashing strobe lights.

My vision gets fuzzy, I think I'm at my limit with the drinks. I excuse myself to the restroom, trying not to stumble on the way.

I look at myself in the mirror, adjusting my outfit. I sigh as I look at my arm while I wash my hands and promise myself to be better. A small group of girls barge into the bathroom, one of them clearly about to be sick. I know it's my cue to leave.

As I walk back to my table, I feel eyes on me. I ignore it as I keep walking until I feel a small tap on my shoulder. I stop dead in my tracks, half expecting it to be Cornrows. I slowly turn around and to my surprise, it was J.

"Uhh..Hey Jade..." he kind of yells to me over the music. I stare blankly at him, glaring almost, trying my best to not show any emotions. I swiftly turn around and finish my walk back to my table. I huff as I sit down. Ev notices and with her eyes, asks me what's up. I gesture my head to where J was still standing, looking broken. She sits up straight, like she's ready to pounce. I look at her, and mouth "Don't." to her. She listens, relaxing her posture.

"This place is boring." she says quickly changing the subject. "I know somewhere else we can go." Allison pipes up. I give her a puzzled look and she just smiles.

We exit the club, not before asking the bouncer to walk us to Ev's car. I sit in the back by myself. I'm a little buzzed and I try not to cry. Seeing J made me feel sick to my stomach. I quietly ask Allison where we're going. She looks at me in the rear-view mirror with a grin. "We're going to an underground street race."
