This is the year the Second world war began between the Allies and the Axis but before hand Italy had established a friendly agreement to be a German ally on which they did and Mussolini and Hitler had met for the first time together and were planning war soon.
Hitler had sent an Ultimatum to Poland to allow Danzig as a part of its territory but the polish refused as despite being a free city state it was still under polish government surveillance which utterly annoyed Hitler to death. But his powerful well trained army was far superior Polish military who despite having a relatively modern army still lacked both the numbers and armoured vehicles needed to combat invaders alongside being on the European plain where it was almost flat land all over meaning little difficulty invading Poland but did have a defensive pact with Britain and France so if the Germans had begun to invade Poland Britain and France would immediately declare war on Germany and invade from the west forcing them to fight on a two front war who would not have the efficient manpower to defend on two fronts, just yet... Hitler didnt believe that France would have the balls to invade from the west into the Saarland.
So they kept only few forces on the border there between the two of them. The German forces had built up at the polish corridor to cut access to the sea for Poland so they would be starved of food and resources to support the war effort and Hitlers new military tactics known as Blitzkrieg was a lightning fast tactic to overwhelm the opposing forces by speed and encircling their forces making them have a weaker force to defend against them so Hitler believed that a little puny army of Poland would not be able to put up such a fight against a military so powerful and effective. Even better for Hitler was that he had signed a non aggression pact with Stalin to invade Poland and split it between the two if them so Poland would definitely stood no chance against Germany.
Hitlers forces were ready whilst the Polish border guards were not expecting any attacks anytime soon and as the invasion began, Britain and France declared war on Germany which started into the Second world war of 1939-1945. As the German army rammed through central Poland the forces were struggling to defeat the Polish forces trapped at the Corridor as they held out desperately against them.
Meanwhile more inland the Germans were marching on Warsaw as they reached the Suburbs very early but just east of that the Polish forces who retreated across the river Bou had regrouped and counter attacked across the river and had some success pushing the Germans back but it didn't last for long as the German forces from East Prussia had encircled them from the north and were trapped inside them.
Meanwhile Warsaw had been seiged and now the so 150,000 troops in the encirclement were holding out very well as the city had both high food and ammunition reserves to hold on for weeks but the Germans decided that bombing was a better idea but it killed way more civilians then soldiers. But overtime, Stalin had began the offensive in Poland in the eastern border which was much less guarded as many of the Polish troops flocked to the conflict on the western border against Germany many Soviet troops faced little to no resistance over the land until they moved more inland and began to come across some of the Polish armoured tanks and vehicles.
Now hundreds of thousands of Polish troops had been encircled and taken prisoner but they continued to fight as the both the polish people and soldiers had high fighting spirits to defend the homeland they had inhabited for centuries as slavic people. But by the time the Soviet soldiers met the German army in the middle Warsaw had fallen as many people decided it was not for the best to keep fighting when your in a war that your not going to win anyways. As all the troops surrendered in Warsaw the last polish pockets of Resistance did have some small pocket bursts but they were cleared up quickly leaving one small pocket of men in the centre where they surrendered in September 1939.In the end many polish troops were able to escape to Romania and Lithuania but the rest were either killed or captured in the rest of the war. And France and Britain did not do much to help Poland but they couldn't do much other then do a small offensive into the Saarland where it was short lived and they pulled out shortly after. And the Germans left the scene rather unscathed. The borders in Poland were drawn as Germany would get 2/3 of Poland whilst the USSR got the other third with a polish puppet government also known as the General government under Hitler's thumb of political power.
The French had mobilized 2,000,000 men whilst the British only sent 200,000 men to France to save for itself. Whilst the Germans were preparing a force of 3,500,000 men to conquer France but just like WW1 they were going to do a Schlieffen plan like move again through the Benelux region. But despite the British and French requests to station troops in Belgium because of Belgiums neutrality like in WW1 they refused access for neither party there.
As they didnt want a repeat of the First world war which they suffered severely except for continuing to fight till the end of the First world war in 1918.
And Hitler needed a new supply of iron as now he was embargoed off from the rest of the world from natural resources meaning he no longer had the iron supply to produce strong tanks like Panzer III and IV but he knew the perfect area to invade ti get his supply of iron back up to stock...
