Chapter 26

Harneet: Who the hell is banging the door so furiously ?

Harneet shouted exclaiming her anger as she reached the door to open after it got banged by at least 8 times by someone.

She opened the door and saw a young woman standing there. She seemed confused at first as she was unable to recognize her. The woman was wearing a sunglass which she took off by giving a much sarcastic smile to Harneet. Harneet examined her wholly through her eyes and finally asked.

Harneet: Yes ? Do I know you ?

Woman: Ofc, you have known me the longest actually.

Harneet: Huh ? Are you sure you are at the correct house ? I clearly don't remember meeting you before.

The women smiled and said something leaving Harneet astonished.

Woman: Offo Mami ji, How could you forget me so easily ? Did I really change that much ?

Harneet: Shehnaaz ?

Shehnaaz: There you go, finally you seem to be on the right track.

Harneet: Haww, you have actually changed so much. I thought you must be married by now and only return here with two kids but guess I was wrong. You couldn't even find a guy for yourself living in a big city.

Shehnaaz: Mami ji I also thought you might have changed after all these years. Maybe a bit sweet and kind but guess I was wrong even after living with such a good husband you still remained the same.

Harneet grew furious having Shehnaaz giving it back to her while Shehnaaz kept standing there being poised.

Harneet: It looks like I shouldn't have let you go that day, at least living under me you could have learned how to behave with elders.

Shehnaaz: Oh trust me Mami I know that very well, I'm surrounded by respectful elders who loves me back in Mumbai and they are very unlike you. They have taught me to treat people like they treat you and I'm only doing that Mami.

Harneet: What Can I even expect from you ? Like mother like daughter, she also didn't leave any stone unturned to disrespect us and guess what ? You are following her footsteps only.

Hearing this Shehnaaz stopped giving her the sarcastic smile and turned serious. She pushed off Harneet from her place and entered the house.

Shehnaaz: Mama ji, Mama ji. Look who's here to meet you. Won't you come and meet your daughter ?

Harneet was still processing the push when she heard Shehnaaz calling Sukhi. She ran up to her and tried to pull her by her hand to get her out of the house. Shehnaaz controlled her laugh and saw her struggling as Harneet was unable to even move her slightly from her place.

After another round of struggling, Harneet finally gave up and sat down
nearby. Sukhi who was resting in his room came out after hearing someone saying Mama ji.

Sukhi: I think I heard someone saying Mama ji, Harneet Is Shehnaaz here ?

As soon as Sukhi said that he noticed a young woman standing and looking at him amazed. He knew it was Shehnaaz by the first glance only. He felt the emotions brewing inside him making him rush towards her.

Shehnaaz hugged the fatherly figure who has been there for her when her own father wasn't. He treated her like his own daughter when Harneet wasn't around not because he was afraid of her but he knew Harneet would torcher her more if she found him giving the love and care.

Harneet watched them from a bit far, she wanted to crush them apart but didn't. They had no child of their own if Sukhi was happy for a while she let him be. She knew it was too late to mend the things she did back then. She hated Shehnaaz, she was so beautiful as a child and she didn't change at all after growing up. The same warm smile with kindness, she wanted a child just like her when she first saw her but it doesn't always go as planned. She had a miscarriage when she was in her 4th month and Shehnaaz used to stay with them that time, She blamed it all over her and called her a curse upon them.
