Ezra's POV:
After the amazing act was over, I hopped into the small Ford Fusion. I'm still in slight disbelief that Asher had saved me. He offered to let me stay at his place for a little while. If he was going to kill me, he wouldn't do it on his own property, right? I mean, that's a lot of cleaning up, and he has to find some sort of a dump site. I think I've been watching too many true crime documentaries.
Not gonna lie, I expected his home to be like a little cave in a mountain with a small door we have to crawl through, but need a code to get in, if that makes any sense. He just seemed like that type, especially with that car. I'm not judging him on what he drives, but if he was having trouble buying a better car, I didn't think he would have a mansion or anything like that. Also, wouldn't that draw some attention to him? He wouldn't want that with his occupation.
I still think like a Minnesotian. I lived where if you had a large two story home, you were living life to its fullest, or you were in the drug business. I'm still trying to adapt and it's been like 5 months! I had to wonder where Asher is from. I never really got time to ask him any questions about himself but I also don't think he's much of a conversationalist. As these thoughts raced through my mind, he was trying to get my attention. His deep voice became loud and more raspy. His eyes grew with slight worry. I was mesmerized by him. And I just pulled off an act on my crazy ex! How'd I get over him that easily?
Asher put his large hands around my arm, and shook me lightly without hurting me. He had about 4 rings on. I snapped out of it. He looked very scared.
"Are you okay?" He asked, very worried.
"Yeah, I- I'm gonna get out now." I stuttered out. I start to reach for the door.
"Wait," he said, lightly grasping my wrist, without losing eye contact.
"You look very pale, but also red. Are you sure you're feeling alright?" he asked again.
I reassured him, "I'm sure." He walked around the car and opened the door for me, grabbing my hand as I got out. Before I knew it, I was in his arms, getting carried into his home from the garage. Do I look like a little toy at Walmart or something? Everyone's always picking me up. But I didn't fight Asher like how I fought Hailee. He walked me over to the door, but I was looking over his shoulder like a baby. He opened the door and warned me he would drop me, but I didn't really want him to. I feel oddly safe with him.
"I'm gonna put you down now," he said with his deep, raspy voice.
"Why?" I asked.
"Because I gotta show you around. I have a bedroom for you too, if you want to stay here at all," he replied.
"I might, just for my own safety if that's alright with you," as I said, still in his arms.
"I completely understand." Asher dropped me off right inside of the house and he shut the door behind us. I was still looking at the door instead of looking at his home.
"Can I show you around or are you just gonna sit here and watch the door?"
I snapped out of it, "Yeah, sorry." I turned around in utter shock.
