He was drawn to her.
In a room full of women throwing themselves at the youngest son of the Park family, Jaehyun couldn't help but be fixated on her.
He wasn't exactly being discrete at the fact that he was looking at the quiet, nervous beauty sticking closely to a guy who seemed familiar but, Jaehyun's stare just blended into the background with everyone else's.
It was the biggest wedding of the century, full of Korean people of high society and in the midst of everything the brown skin girl stuck out.
For once all eyes weren't on Jaehyun and he felt a sense of familiarity with the girl who had taken his place.
"She is stunning, isn't she?"
Jaehyun tried to remain neutral but it was hard to get anything past Boram. Being born a girl who was meant to marry into wealth made her terribly perceptive.
The woman stood with a mischievous smile and a twinkle in her brown eyes. Her vintage Vera Wang dress making women in the proximity drip with jealousy.
It was already lucky enough to be born a Kim. To also marry into the Park conglomerate all in the same lifetime... it seemed unfair to some of the women that a woman could be so blessed twice.
"She is pretty."
There was no reason for Jaehyun to lie or downplay the girl's beauty. He looked at how the cream dress clung to her curves... the backless dress making her back look alluring.... Bringing even more attention to a different place.
Jaehyun had never focused on the back and shoulders of a woman but now... he just might pay closer attention.
"Jaehyun, you look like you're ready to eat her," Jitae joked placing a hand on his wife's back. Boram and himself shared a look amused and amazed that even Jaehyun could be so enthralled by someone.
It was a once in a lifetime moment.
"Off the bone," he joked earning a laugh from his brother. "Who is the guy she's with?"
"Dad told me he told you... Lee Hoseok remember? We used to hang out all the time - you hated him."
"The one who went abroad," the man asked finally focusing on his brother.
"Yeah, you remember," Jitae smiled as Boram excused herself. "I didn't know he was bringing a plus one."
Jitae took the opportunity to sit next to his brother as they both got lost in conversation. Jaehyun listened smiling here and there as his brother shared about his encounter with the prime minister.
"Can you believe that he as-"
"Jitae! Bro I've been looking for you the whole time." Jitae excitedly greeted the Hoseok and Jaehyun remembered why he couldn't stand him when they were younger.
He was simply too annoying.
"Long time no see Jaehyun," the man attempted to greet with an outstretched hand but Jaehyun simply ignored him settling on a brief nod.
He didn't even bother to look at the man as his eyes focused on the subject of his attention. In some ways the man was thankful Hoseok decided to come closer because he got to look at the girl standing by him closer than before.
And he was thankful for that.
Jaehyun couldn't help the cockiness that filled him when he noticed the girl shift shyly as their eyes meet.
Her features, her skin tone, her lips, everything about her was better up close.
Something in Jaehyun wanted to have her for himself.
Noticing the glances and the tension, Jitae decided to try and lighten the mood. His brother had no problem with making things awkward but Jitae would rather not.
"Hoseok, who's the lovely lady standing by you?"
"This is my girlfriend, Nair," Hoseok emphasised the word girlfriend giving Jaehyun a look. Jaehyun quirked an eyebrow lazily meeting Hoseok's indignant eyes.
Hoseok was completely floored at Jaehyun's audacity. How could he ogle his girlfriend so openly?
"Nair is a pretty name," Jaehyun commented leaning forward meeting the girl's shy gaze. At this point he wanted to get under Hoseok's skin and also get under Nair's skin...
Nair muttered a low thank you but Jaehyun heard it. She was quiet but her tone was sweet and calming. Jaehyun was tempted to keep going just to keep hearing it.
But there was something Jaehyun couldn't miss. Hoseok wrapped an arm around the girl's waist and she stiffened.
Maybe no one could see it but, he saw her body language clearly signalling that she was trying to keep calm. He continued looking at Nair even as Hoseok and Jitae remained in conversation.
Jaehyun was an asshole. That is the only explanation as to why he was enjoying watching the girl try not to meet his gaze.
"One day we need to go on a trip to the States then," Jitae laughed trying to fake excitement for something Hoseok was telling him.
"I can show you all the good spots," Hoseok lit up. "And I'm telling you, those foreign girls are freaks," the man laughed with a smirk nodding slightly towards the direction of the girl by his side. "They do anything if you can catch my drift."
Jaehyun scoffed loudly before standing up. He was getting to the point where he wanted to leave and hearing Hoseok be a degenerate pushed him to the edge.
How could he suggest Jitae cheat at his own wedding? Jaehyun thought it lacked decorum.
"I'm gonna head out Jitae."
Jaehyun hated smoking inside his car so he stood near his car quickly finishing his cigarette. It wasn't often that the man was distracted but on this occasion, he was very engrossed in what his second in command was telling him about today's operation in his absence.
"E-excuse me," a soft voice called out making Jaehyun break out of his thoughts. Jaehyun looked down at the girl who looked nervously up at him.
Nair tried to gather her courage as Jaehyun kept a neutral experience. At this point he had finished his cigarette blowing the remaining smoke far away from the girl's face.
He chewed some chewing gum trying to get rid of the aftertaste.
"Yes, sweetheart?"
The nickname rolling off his tongue to his surprise. The pet names things weren't for him. He even thought Jitae was a bitch for having so many for Boram.
He never knew one would come out so naturally.
"Your tattoos are so pretty," she complimented shyly with a smile. "Y-your neck one... did it-"
"Nair!"
Both Jaehyun and Nair instinctively turned towards the sound seeing an unhappy Hoseok walking towards them.
