Jaehyun hadn't really made Nair mad before... until now.
That night he did end up sort of... kind of... making it so she couldn't stay. At the time he didn't feel bad but now that he had been getting the silent treatment for four days, it didn't feel worth it.
"I cut your strawberries into rabbit shapes."
He put the plate on the table in front of her and then stood back. He watched nervously for her reaction as he fiddled with his apron.
"I'm not hungry," she mumbled not breaking focus from the show on the tv.
Jaehyun sighed feeling a bit upset.
He wanted to be patient but, at the same time he didn't get why she was this upset. It wasn't that serious to him.
He always got complained at for not acting possessive enough and now it was bitting him in the ass.
"Nair, I'm sorry," Jaehyun apologised for the millionth kneeling in front of her. "I made a mistake. I shouldn't have been there and acted like that. What else do I have to do for you to see im sorry?"
Jaehyun had tried everything in the last four days. He brought her makeup. He brought her clothes... he even brought her, her very first Birkin but Nair wasn't happy with him at all.
She didn't even touch the gifts.
"I didn't like what you did..."
"I know I was wrong-"
"I didn't like that you followed me or that you made it a scene or that you made me leave. I thought you trusted me."
Jaehyun felt like a proud deflated balloon. Yes, Nair was gathering him but a few months ago she would struggle to tell him what she wanted to eat.
He liked that she was more clear and direct about her feelings.
"I know baby... I do trust you. I thought I should have been there in case anything happened."
Nair finally faced Jaehyun finding him sincere. Dr Brown told her to get to the core of what made the situation upsetting to her and express that to Jaehyun without sugar coating it.
Establishing barriers was something Nair had never done before.
She didn't even know if she was doing it right but, she wanted Jaehyun to know exactly how she felt.
"It was triggering- I don't want you following me and stuff without me knowing. It just reminds me of when I couldn't do stuff. I don't want you to make me feel like that."
"I'm sorry," Jaehyun apologised holding Nair's hand. " I didn't mean to make you feel like that."
"Okay," she smiled softly, "Just don't do it again. I would rather you tell me you want to come or you tell me to text you or something... if something is wrong I will always call you first."
Jaehyun hugged Nair feeling relieved to be so close to her again.
"I just get worried, I don't want you to be hurt... You mean a lot to me. I just- I think it's because I've seen you hurt before..."
"I'll be okay as long as I have you," Nair smiled pinching his cheek. "You will always protect me."
...Jaehyun stared lovingly watching Nair finally eat his bunny shaped strawberries.
He was just happy that they had resolved things.
"I got organic strawberries this time."
"Thank you Hyunnie," she beamed kissing his cheek. "All strawberries you get taste so good - better than when I pick them."
Jaehyun was proud of this. He spent a lot of time picking out the best ones.
He even started reading in depth how to spot the best ones and what store sold the best ones... he was spending a fortune on them.
And he'd spend his whole net worth to buy the best food for her.
"You're so beautiful."
Nair couldn't help but blush. Jaehyun complimented her all the time but it still caught her by surprise.
"You're super cute too."
"Nah... I think you're the most beautiful person ever."
Jaehyun had realised this a long time ago.
He was in love with Nair.
And he wasn't ashamed or conflicted about it. In fact he was relieved that he could experience such emotions. For the longest time, he thought that he was wired differently.
He wasn't quick to be affectionate. He was pretty much ready to be alone for his whole life but right now, he couldn't even... Jaehyun didn't even know how he was prepared for such a thing.
Not when Nair was out there this whole time.
"I'm glad I met you. It's like you're a prince."
That statement stung Jaehyun for some reason. He knew he wasn't a good person so... to some extent he did feel like a fraud.
"If you found out out I wasn't your prince and was... someone else instead - would you still like me?"
"If you keep showing up as a prince to me, I don't care what anyone says. I will stick by you," Nair promised stroking his cheek.
She had never been more sure of anything. She was only sure of the fact that she was sticking by Jaehyun.
"If... you ever have to choose between yourself and me, choose you every time no matter what."
"Jaehyun-"
"Promise me."
Nair didn't want to but, she knew Jaehyun had his serious face.
"Okay, I promise but only if it's something really, really big."
"You have to do it even if it's something small sweetheart," Jaehyun smiled gently kissing her. "I've done some things- I'm not always who you think so-"
"I accept you," Nair cut him off holding his hands. The certainty surprised even herself. It didn't matter to her. "To me, you're Jaehyun. That's all I care about."
To Jaehyun her words were the equivalent of saying she loves him.
To him that meant the world.
....
"Do you understand who Jaehyun Park is? I don't think you do sweetheart."
