I was sure I would lose when Rias challenged me to a chess game. But what just happened...completely baffled me.

After the game, Rias demanded an explanation from Grayfia. So we all regrouped at the main hall.

"Grayfia, can you please explain? I thought the game was supposed to end after I destroyed Rhodes' King piece."

"My apoligies, Ojou-sama. But this is the first time something like this has happened."

"Not even once?"

Grayfia closed her eyes for a few moments.

"As far as I can remember, there was never a case where the chess pieces could move by their own will. All the other leaders of Gremory's house before your father used the same strategy you used, by infusing their chess pieces with their magic to strengthen them."

Whoa, whoa, hold on a minute. She just said something I can't ignore.

"I didn't know you were allowed to use magic in this game. Isn't that unfair for me, who can't use magic?"

Rias gave me a confused look.

"It's called 'magic chessboard' for a reason. And yet, even after using my magic, I still had difficulty defeating your pieces."

"O-ouh. Is it really that hard? I thought you were a pro in chess."

Rias was clearly frustrated. I don't know what happened, but did I really give Rias that much trouble?

"Rhodes-sama, if you don't mind me asking, did you do something before you lost consciousness?"

"Ah, I don't mind. But tell me what happened before I fell asleep."
