The cafeteria buzzed with the chatter of interns grabbing lunch, the air thick with the smell of hospital food and caffeine. The conversations slowed when Becky stormed in, drawing every eye in the room. Without hesitation, she slid into the seat next to Irin.

The weight of something heavy was written all over her face.

"I didn't think Dr. Chankimha was that bad," Irin began cautiously, watching Becky's blank expression.

No response.

"Hey! Becky!" Irin nudged her, finally snapping her out of whatever daze she was in.

Becky blinked, suddenly aware of the curious stares around her. Her gaze darted from face to face before finally settling on Irin's concerned expression. Could they even be considered friends yet? They had only just met. But still, the girl seemed nice.

"Oh! Hey!" Becky said awkwardly, forcing a wave toward the rest of the table—interns, just like her.

"Is everything alright?" Irin pressed.

"Yes... everything's fine. Everything's great, actually." Becky plastered on a smile, though it was far from convincing.

"You look like you've seen a ghost," a tall, dark-haired guy remarked.

"It's just first-day nerves," Becky replied, shrugging.

"That's fair. This is the real deal. Med school feels like a piece of cake now," he said with a grin. "I'm Billy, by the way."

"I'm Mind, that's Lux, and that cute one over there is William," another girl added.

Becky gave them all a polite nod. "Nice to meet you. I'm Rebecca, but you can call me Becky."

Lux leaned in, curiosity sparking in her eyes. "So, how was working with Dr. Chankimha? You do know she's every intern's dream, right?"

Becky frowned. "Seriously?"

"Absolutely. She's hot as hell and happens to be the best. Who wouldn't want to work with her?" Lux replied, as if stating the obvious.

Becky exhaled. "I barely spent five minutes with her. So I don't know... not yet, anyway."

"What about the other thing?" William asked, raising an eyebrow.

"What thing?"

"Is she hot?"

Of course, she was hot. Ridiculously hot. But there was no way Becky was going to say that out loud. She couldn't even think like that.

"She's... okay."

"Okay? Are we talking about the same person?" Lux gawked. "She's literally called the Forbidden Fruit of this hospital. Everyone wants her, yet no one can have her."

She wanted me, though.

Becky clenched her jaw. What is her deal, anyway?

"Besides her, Dr. Armstrong is the hottest," Billy announced, far too excited.

Becky's eyes widened immediately.

"Dude, he's married," Irin said, smacking Billy's arm.

"Doesn't mean I can't find him hot."

"You're weird," Mind said, shaking her head.

"Is it true that Dr. Chankimha and Dr. Armstrong are rivals?" Lux asked, suddenly interested in the conversation.

"They're both in line for Chief of Surgery, so... probably," Mind answered.

"May the best one win," Billy joked.
