Chapter 63

"Are you okay, love?" Freen hesitated.

Becky just looked at her. Her eyes were so empty, they had lost their spark. Freen remembered how full of life Becky's eyes were when they first met.

She felt powerless.

"If there's anything I can do..."

Becky kept staring at the mirror in front of her. "Can you make me forget?" She whispered.

Freen felt her heart shatter in her chest and tears, making their ways to her eyes. "I wish I could. I've never wanted anything more in my whole life."

Becky looked at her for a second before walking to meet her. They stared at one another before they were in each other's arms.

"I'm sorry, darling." Becky whispered. "I wish I could be stronger than this."

"You don't need to be strong, Becky."

"I know that you're suffering too." Becky said. " You went through it too. I know that you're being strong for me, but you can break. I know that you're not unbreakable."

"We don't have to be broken, Becky." Freen muttered.

"B.. But I feel broken and that there's no way for me to be fixed ever again."

"Maybe it's because you don't need fixing." Freen replied. "Maybe you need to find a way to accept it and go on. I know it's terrible to say, but there is no going back from this."

"I know. I just..it's just so hard. I keep seeing his face. My mind keeps rewinding everything that happened."

Freen took a deep breath, "I know some things are hard to forget. I keep seeing your face with a gun pointed at your head. I keep checking whether you are beside me in bed or not. It's like I'm so afraid of losing you. I never wanna feel that way again, like so helpless."

"I wish I could tell you that I'm right here. But it doesn't feel like it. It doesn't feel like it's ever going to be okay again. I feel so lost myself."

Freen looked at her. "I know you do. But you're strong, never forget that you are. You saved all of them. You were so brave."

"Then why do I feel like a coward? Why couldn't I pull the trigger when it mattered?"

"Because of who you are. You are a doctor, you save lives."

"But Saint could have died. Any one of them could have." Becky said, her eyes swollen and red.

"They didn't. You helped them. In the end, you did what was inevitable. You did the right thing."

"It didn't feel right. The way he looked into my eyes when the bullet pierced his skull, it shattered me. He was only trying to help his brother. Did he deserve to die that way, Freen?" Becky whispered, her voice so broken.

"He sealed his fate the moment he put on that vest and barged into a hospital with a gun, threatening to kill people. He knew what he was doing, and you should never blame yourself for that. Never."

Becky closed her eyes, "I'm sorry."

Freen smiled at her, "I know, love."

Freen kept whispering comforting words, "I wish there was something I could do to ease your pain."

Becky sighed. "You already are, being here for me is more than enough."

"You will always have me. I love you so much, Becky." Freen said.

Tears were starting to form in her eyes, and Becky was hoping that the darkness of the night would conceal them. She was tired of Freen seeing her cry, "Loving you is what's keeping me alive. Being loved by you is what keeps me from falling apart. I'd be so lost without you."

"I'm never going anywhere." Freen whispered.

"I will always be here for you. You are the one who gave me strength when the world around me was falling apart. You gave me love when nothing seemed to matter. You gave me a family when I felt I had none. You believed in me when no one else did. And you loved me against all odds.

I know pain exists, and we're not weak for living with it. I will protect you, support you, and love you like nobody else before. I will be here holding your hands through everything.

I love you, Becky, and nothing is ever going to change that."
