After the ceremony, Lysistrata invited Violet over to study. In reality their "Advanced Science" books are open, but the girls just lay parallel on Lyssie's bed, talking about whatever came to mind.
"Okay don't get mad or anything but, you kind of look like a young Dr. Gaul". Violet springs to a sitting position at her best friend's words. "Lyssie, what are you talking about"?
Lysistrata's expression goes from playful to serious, when she sees that Violet is really upset about this. She sits up too, placing a hand over hers. "It was just a joke, I'm kidding I swear". Violet has worried before, if anyone would think she looks like her mother. It seems like no one has, until now. In the back of her mind, there's a nagging thought that, this could be the time to tell her best friend the truth. Maybe Lysistrata won't, want to end their friendship.
"Lyssie there's actually something I have-"oh hold on". Violet stops talking and sighs watching Lyssie swiftly go from her bed, to her closet. Lysistrata reaches in the far right corner on the top shelf, and grabs a small black box. Violet stands up in guilt with a hand raised for a second, right as Lysistrata walks up to her, "I really don't deserve a gift Lyssie". Lysistrata places the box on the edge of her bed, and grasps Violet's shoulders in wonderment. "Nonsense, you deserve the world Vi. Well certainly not this one, her hands let go of Violet's shoulders, but a world". Violet smiles softly at Lyssie, at a loss for words.
Lysistrata takes the lid off the box, revealing a classic, pink, butterfly necklace with a gold outline of the creature. The chain the butterfly rests on, is also gold. Lyssie takes the necklace and separates them, Violet curses in her head, seeing the butterfly is now split into two wings; two halves. Lysistrata starts speaking, handing Violet one; chuckling when Violet is reluctant to take it.
"After I saw you lunge for Arachne, I knew I had to have you as a friend". Violet lets out a laugh mid sentence. "These are our friendship necklaces; I bought them yesterday. I've been thinking a lot lately, we might go to different universities, or something bad could happen. I don't want to wait to let you know that, I love you like a sister".
Violet's eyes go blurry. Not because of what Lysistrata said at all. Violet loves Lysistrata, and she knows Lysistrata loves her. So lying to her all this time, Lysistrata offering her this beautiful necklace she doesn't even deserve? It's starting to take a toll on the girl. Lysistrata is right, they could be going to different universities. Violet doesn't even know what she wants to be, let alone which university to choose. Violet quickly puts the necklace on, clasping the top.
Lysistrata does the same, then suddenly remembers something. "I'm so sorry Vi what kind of friend am I? What were you trying to tell me earlier"? Violet inhales deeply before throwing her arms around Lyssie. "Thank you, and I love you like a sister too"! Lysistrata returns the hug, gently patting Violet's back. Violet breaks away from the hug, to gather her things. Before walking out the door, Violet tells Lysistrata she will always wear her necklace. Lysistrata hugs her one more time, then simply tells her she will see her later.
As Violet is walking out of the grand house, Mr. and Mrs. Vickers are walking up the cobblestone steps to their door. Mr and Mrs Vickers love Violet. The friendship she has with their daughter is very hard to find; especially in panem. Mr Vickers said a quick hello and good-bye, to Violet before he ran for the bathroom. Mrs. Vickers chuckles shaking her head. "I told him not to eat that sandwich". Violet chuckles along with her, knowing she can't stay for the whole story.
Mrs. Vickers puts on a warm smile setting her purse down at the door. "Violet, it's always nice having you here. Are you going home to pack, so you can spend the night"? Violet really wants to. But she feels so guilty just being in their house now. "I actually have a lot of homework to do, so I just stopped by to say hey". Violet internally cringes, at how easy it is to lie now. Violet's guilty self, sped out of the house; stopping for a second hearing Mrs. Vickers tells her that she is welcome anytime.
A/N: I don't really like this chapter. I worked hard on it, I still feel like it was a little rushed. Tell me what y'all think.
Lysistrata and Violet are so cute 🥺. I feel so bad for Violet, she couldn't even go through with the truth. I had to put the butterfly necklace here. It's sooo pretty! 😍
Mr. Vickers really shouldn't have eaten that sandwich😂
