Aj and Niko were as close as best friends could be.
But sometimes, being just close is worse than being strangers

A/N- pretend all the boys still live together. please. thanks :) Also i will be making up a few things to fit the story line, mainly timings and other stuff. I do have my own idea for a story line, but will be taking a slight idea from ajshawheels0 (thanks bae) of having a fake character for the plot line (If you dont want me to j lmk) anyways, enjoy shmucks x
Aj and Niko were what you expected of best friends. They did everything together; argued like little kids, and told each other everything the way gossip gets spread in a nursing home. They cuddled on the sofa when watching a movie, Niko carried Aj to his room if he fell asleep downstairs, Aj would always make sure to pick up Nikos favourite snacks when he passed the corner-shop, and they both talked the other Beta boys ears off with nonsense about each other. Yeah, best friends. They couldn't imagine life without the other.
It was Saturday evening, and the boys were all sat in the cinema room watching their latest upload, as they did every week. Aj had his head in Nikos lap, as he was running his fingers through his curls, every now and then his fingers getting tangled in the knotty mess. Chunkz pressed play on the video and Sharky's voice filled the room. Less than 5 seconds into the video Kenny was already giggling away.
"Crazy how right now Nikos your personal pillow, but you're pushing his arm off you in the vid,"
Aj sighed still looking at the screen, "this is different. I'm not technically touching him and yeah, its different." Pushing himself closer into Niko. Chunkz just rolled his eyes, expecting this type of nonsense from Aj, and Niko kept quiet not wanting to ruin the moment. He cherished these little moments with his best friend, the ones that were just for them away from the outside world. Niko knew he meant a lot to Aj, and vice-versa. It warmed his heart how his friend who hated being touched, craved some from him. He loved Aj, he loved all his brothers, but Aj just had that special place in his heart that he just couldn't explain to anyone, not even himself.
By the end of the video, the boys stomachs hurt from laughing so much. With all the pauses to discuss the video, (more like laugh at their own bs actions) it had taken nearly 2 hours to watch the video. "Im hungry," Aj complained, and as if on cue Kennys stomach rumbled, causing the boys to fall into yet another laughing fit.
"I'm feeling a bit hungry too, what would you boys like to eat?" Sharky asked, opening his phone to browse on Uber Eats.
"Chicken Cottage sounds fire right now, i cant lie," Aj says looking around to see if the boys would agree.
"Yeah but the only problem is they don't do delivery after 10pm (pretend they dont)," Chunkz begins, "Unless someones willing to go get some for us," looking around at the other boys.
"Ugh I cant be bothered, can we find somewhere else please," Niko says, as the boys all mumble out in agreement.
"I mean I dont mind, but was kinda craving it," Aj sighs. He did really want it, but didnt want to inconvinence the other boys. Niko notices the slight sadness in Ajs voice, he always knew when the shorter lad was lying, and he couldn't let Aj be sad, not on his account.
"Fine. I'll go get it," Niko sighs, he'd really do anything for this boy, "But only if you come with me."
"really! YAY!" Aj cheered, "But how about i dont go"
"Oh no, you will come with me, or you don't get your chicken," Niko smiles.
"N-" before Aj could finish saying no, he was cut off by his own scream. Niko was tickling Aj to death, laughing as he did so. The otehr boys looked on, laughing at Ajs screaming and squirming.
"What did you say?" Niko asked between laughs, "YES YES ILL GO FUCK," Aj lets out between breaths.
"I thought so," before getting up and walking to grab his car keys. "everyone send your orders to my phone, cause we all know Ajs is probably near dead,"
"Hey thats not true," Aj protests before looking down to see his phone battery on 12%, "never mind"
Aj gets up and follows Niko to the car. He sits in the front seat, takes off his sliders and crosses his legs. He was a bit of a passenger princess, although he'd never admit it.
"Comfortable there, aje?" Aj just smiles up at him, before initiating conversation.
The whole way to the chicken shop they're talking about nothing and everything, Thats how it always was between them. Aj spitting out complete nonsense and Niko patiently listening on to the pure waffle coming out the olders mouth. He loved it though. It had started raining on the way to the chicken shop, which didn't seem like much of a problem at the time, but would soon work against Ajs favour.
The boys got their food, and Niko put it in the back seat. Before Aj could go round to sit, Niko grabbed Aj by the arm and let out a sigh.
"Aje, I need to tell you something, its nothing bad dont worry, but as my best friend i wanted to tell you before I told the other boys,"
Aj was terrified, what was Niko so scared of telling him? and Why did he have to tell him, first?
He was getting soaked, and his curls began to fall from their high position on his head.
"Yeah, uh, whats up Nik,"
"Well, Ive been talking to this girl for a few months now. Her name is Alyah, and shes really nice and pretty and sweet. and I think you'd get on really well with her," Niko rambles, before pausing and seeing Ajs face. Ajs heart completely shattered, but he didnt know why? Why couldnt he be happy his best friend met a girl? "Whats wrong Aje? Aj speak to me."
Aj didnt know what to say, it was a lot for him to take in. He was completely drenched at this point, "Why didnt you say anything sooner," was all he could get out.
he was mad. Why did this annoy him so much.
"I just wanted to make sure it was going somewhere, that she was somewhat worth it. Im sorry Aje, I shoudldve told you sooner, but I was scared. Please forgive me?"
All Aj could do was nod, "lets just go home, my shoes are filled with water," was all he could say before turning around to sit in the passanger seat, beside Niko.
Aj wanted to know why everything hurt. He was thanking God it was raining so Niko wouldnt see the tears that filled his eyes. He wanted to be happy for his best friend, but he just couldnt, and it made him frustrated.
Aj loved being with Niko in the rain, always had, but he'd ruined it.
