Our story dear readers opens on a sprawling New Jersey family mansion. The Addams' family mansion to be exact. We're met with varying shades of blacks and grays with the occasional accent of sepia, cream, or white. It is a place significantly void of color. However, not all colors are barred. The truest and darkest shades of red, and the deepest and richest of purples alone are the only acceptable colors to ever grace the eye of an Addams by choice. Blood and bruises. Oh how fitting for a family with the motto, 'Sic Gorgiamus Allos Subjectatos Nuc' or 'We Gladly Feast On Those Who Would Subdue Us.' Latin is a beautiful language.

The Addams are outcasts. They are so by choice. Their differences causing them to have to fight, and fight they did quite literally for their very existence in a society that had always placed so much value and emphasis on being the same. The same horse and carriage, and manor through the same suburban cookie cutter homes, and cars, and families surrounded by color. All with socially acceptable jobs and hobbies. The town had been trying to run the family out for decades to no avail, be it by pitchfork and torch or law ordinance. Because in a world of bland and basic, the Addams family definitely stood out as spicy. Unique. As different. And different definitely equaled bad to most. They were other. The unknown. It was easy to convince others and to stereotype them as dark and evil. Almost too easy. Most Addams took it in stride, not caring about society or their expectations.

Despite the turmoil of the outside world, the manor and grounds themselves are a place full of gothic peace, quiet, tranquility, and comfort to those that dwelled within. A sanctuary if you will. You shouldn't get to comfortable here though. The house holds secrets. Besides fortunately or unfortunately depending, we won't be staying here for too long.

The occupants for the most part mirror their home. Mysterious, dark, and somewhat detached from the outside world. They're happy to exist within their own walls. Amongst each other. Along with the manor's many ghosts and spirits however, resides a family.

Morticia, the matriarch. Tall, dark, and deadly if crossed. Do not mistake her kindness for weakness. That would be a mistake on your part. She is anything but. She runs the household. She is a woman of poise and grace. Known for both her intellect and her beauty. Her attributes are many. She is a woman of many skills and talents. Everything she does is planned. She makes careful and calculated moves and investments as a way to better her family's standing. As mother and spouse she is attentive and caring in her own way while still allowing her children to grow, develop, and maintain their own personhood. A guiding hand completely loyal and devoted to her family in spite of what her eldest child would believe.

Gomez, the patriarch. He's boisterous and handsome. A man who's chivalry, character, charisma, and bravery know no bounds. He's witty and clever his tongue is as sharp as the antique rapier he loves to wield. He's brash and passionate, impulsive, and emotional the complete foil to his lady love. To whom he is completely devoted. As a father and spouse, he's giving, and loving, supportive, fiercely protective, and loyal. He would both kill to protect those he cares about or help them get rid of the body, which ever came first. No questions asked. Gomez is a businessman and lawyer. He's very good at both.

Pugsley, the younger brother of the Addams children. The black sheep of the family. A boy who is kind trusting and gentle though still dark and spooky. His appearance and hobbies align with the rest of the family, but he tries to see the best in people. Even in those that would bully him mercilessly for being different. He hasn't yet built up a tough exterior or the full desire to shut the world out. He is emotional, rash, and impulsive like his father and he loves his family dearly. He also has a love for chemistry, poisons, and explosives.(His age for my purposes is estimated at about 13 to 14 years old. Unless he skipped a bunch of grades. He attended the same public high school as his older sister before she was expelled. That would place him in the ninth grade.)

Wednesday, the eldest Addams child. She is 15. The epitome of gothic beauty. She is cunning and clever, intelligent and precise in everything she does. She is a sponge and soaks up every bit of information around her having a nearly photographic memory. She has a desire to learn specifically about subjects deemed morbid and macabre. She has a very black and white sense of justice, and an eye for an eye mentality. And a penchant for all things creepy, dead, and bladed. This is her story. Her world. We only exist within it. For now.

Honorable mentions:

Uncle Fester. Gomez's brother. He's odd. Also a black sheep. He still very much treads on the darker side of life, but has a much sunnier disposition. He's still kooky, spooky, and weird. He's a huge fan of lobotomies and vacations in asylums for fun. He prefers robberies and theft to murder. His niche is towards explosives. A hobby he passed down to both his niece and nephew. He doesn't seem threatening. However, you should not ever underestimate him.

Thing. Thing is a sentient hand. Only a hand stitched together with magic and snark. He's exceptionally loyal to the family and is one of Wednesday's closest confidants. He's social and friendly. What he lacks physically he makes up for in spirit. What happened to the rest of him is one of the great Addams' family mysteries.

Lurch. He's a man of few words. An exceptionally tall man of few words at that. He's supremely loyal to the family. He's been with them as butler, driver, and confidant for decades if not centuries. His eye rolls are legendary. He taught Wednesday evening she knows in that area. She was an excellent student.
