Luckily, July passed without any more incidents. The down side? Enid did not wolf out with the July full moon. Her senses were once again heightened. Nothing as intense as the last one, but way more than she was prepared for none the less. She felt things shift, she felt herself once again teetering on the edge of something, but still no wolf. She could however produce her claws at will now, and her fangs kinda popped out when she was excited, over stimulated or overwhelmed. It was something. Always an Angel never a God.
Her family packed up and left for home right after the full moon. Enid talked to Dana. She let it be known that Dana had family. That she was not completely alone anymore. They exchanged postal information, emails and phone numbers promising to keep in touch.
Once Enid got back to San Francisco and on stable WiFi again, she spent a good couple of days hiding in her room, catching up properly on her socials, collecting all the juicy gossip she could to put out a new blog post, and telling Yoko everything that had happened. EVERY thing. Enid also occasionally checked up on Grayson Bishop. Enid wanted to make sure they were ok. It wasn't their fault her mother was shitty. Apparently they found someone while hanging out in the Castro District. Their 'soul mate' Surprisingly enough it was another wolf who's family had not accepted them for who they were so they left home and moved to San Francisco on their own. They were now mated officially. Enid was totally happy for them.
Enid and Esther were still not on speaking terms. Apparently arranged marriages were not cheap, and were also nonrefundable. It was becoming more and more evident that if she didn't wolf out or at least find a mate of her own soon she would be disowned. It wasn't a matter of if any more but when, and the prospect scared the shit out of her, but being alone also genuinely scared her. It was just another scoop of double edged bullshit Enid had to deal with.
Her father was an anxious ball of nerves all the time. He was still hemorrhaging money into Enid's account, but they barely spoke to each other. Enid's thought was that he knew about and felt guilty over something. Maybe the Grayson thing and not something else completely horrible her mother was planning. Hopefully this distance between them would blow over soon.
Her brother's were still jerks even more so when they got back home. Especially Caleb. He obviously took her mother's side. He became Enid's personal bully. He took his torment to a whole new level. In the week and a half they were home, he physically threatened her, took her things, destroyed her room, made sure there was no food for her at her favorite meals, and smashed her phone which her father then replaced with a newer, better model. Esther simply scoffed at his behaviors. Wolves will be wolves after all. She ignored Enid's protests for help. In the end, her mother chose to forget she even existed. She had someone else to focus on that wasn't a disappointment. If she only knew.
Her brother Asa had since chosen a mate. She was a pretty girl from a good family. Her name was Margo. Margo Fisher. Asa said he had had a crush on her anyways so he wasn't upset about it when her parents approached theirs. Something still seemed off though. She was a year younger, but they did go to the same college. Hawthorn located in rural Massachusetts. It was Nevermore 2.0. Over half the student body transferred there from Nevermore once they graduated. Asa and Margo had different majors of course, but they had friends and similar interests in common. Surprisingly she was also from Northern California.
While they were on the land, the new love birds had spent all of their free time together. That hadn't changed since they'd been home. Asa doted on Margo. It was kind of sweet in a forced marriage kind of way. Even though it was Asa's choice, it didn't really feel that way to Enid for some reason. The whole situation still gave her the ik. She thought about Grayson and how her life would have changed. As she scrolled through Insta, her thoughts wandered. Enid was adamant she had made the right choice for both of them. Grayson seemed happy. Super happy. That left Enid alone, but that was totally ok. She was fine. She was just going to be even more determined to find her own mate. She just needed a boyfriend at school to postpone the inevitable. It had to be a boy or her mom would flip otherwise. Esther already refused to accept that Enid was anything but straight. Had she really honestly known anything about Grayson Bishop, that whole thing never would have taken place. It was painful just how judgmental and closed minded Esther Sinclair really was.
