Nadia Thompson
I tried adjusting myself but I couldn't, it felt as if a ton of weight was sitting on me. I tried again this time I shifted a bit but it hurt, hurt like hell. My eyes quickly shot open as pain tore through my body I groaned in agonizing pain. I was confused and in a daze I didn't recognize where I was at or how I even got here.
I was in a hospital gown with tubes running in and out of my body and machines beeping obnoxiously. I was in the hospital. I tried looking around the hospital room but something was limiting my head movement. I weakly placed my hand on my neck feeling that I had on a neck brace.
Suddenly everything started coming back to me all the way up to the crash after that I blacked out. I spotted Dijon out the corner of my eyes sleeping with his phone in his hand.
I survived but I don't want to be here not on this earth and not in this fucking hospital. I quickly snatched the tubes off of my body trying my best to move but I couldn't I was stuck. Tears began to pour from my eyes as I tried to quiet the machines that were beeping at rapid speed. I didn't want to wake Dijon up as I tried to escape. I mustered up all the strength I had and began banging on the machine, still crying. It wouldn't stop beeping.
"You stupid?" Dijon mumbled scaring me. He stood to feet stretching walking over to me. I shook my head no as I tried once again to climb out of the bed. It's like the upper half of my body worked but the bottom half didn't.
"Nadia!" He yelled causing me to jump in fear he never raised his voice at me before. "Stop fuckin movin for you do more damaged." He grumbled pressing the button on the side of my bed calling for the doctor I'm assuming.
"Why? How?" He asked in disbelief he placed his hand behind his head avoiding eye contact with me.
"You wouldn't understand, you don't understand." I said barely audible as I looked in my lap and began fiddling with the monitor on my left index finger.
"Don't sit here givin me that bullshit! What if you woulda died? Two deaths in one day separate occasions! Huh?" I couldn't stand to look at him.
"You don't care, you never cared!" I yelled as the nurse walked into the room. He wouldn't understand, he could go back to Cali and live with his perfect family for all I care. He didn't know the daily struggles my mom and I faced.
I winced in pain as the doctor began to poke at me.
"How are you? I'm Dr.Fitzgerald." She gave me a small smile.
"Not good!" I grumbled she frowned as she began to attached the tubes I had pulled of moments earlier back on to me. "Are you having any pain in your neck?" She questioned grabbing her clipboard writing somethings down.
"No, that's why I'm wondering why I have this neck brace on."
"Safety procedures, we were unsure if had received an neck injury but since you claim you're okay we can take it off." She tucked her clipboard under her arm helping me sit up in the bed.
"I'm going to give you the run down of things. Okay?" She told me after taking the neck brace off of me. I nodded my head while I began messaging and stretching it my neck, it was stiff.
"You have temporary paralyzation from your hips down due to a car T-boning you, it won't last long. I must say you are very lucky to have survived that crash. You have minor scraps a bruising but you'll be fine."
"Just my luck!" I replied sarcastically. The doctor smiled as she finished up what she had to do.
"Why?" Dijon whispered as the doctor left out of the room. "Lemme know explain." He rubbed his hands down his face pacing the room. "Talk to me man, we use to be so close!"
