The wandering eyes of an infant child landed on their mother's photo as they carefully picked it up with their grasp. A single tear rolled down their face as they saw their mother's warm smile and kind eyes in the photo.

They wondered what happened that day.

The day everything changed.

The child wanted their old mother back, not the current one. That warm smile, those kind eyes. They wanted it back. They wanted all of it back. They wanted that cruel creature their mother turned into gone.

But sadly, they knew that would never happen.

That's what maturity is all about...

right?

Elanor gazed with concern at the tall seraphim who was struggling with the pancake batter in hand. "Hey Sera-" the little angel started to say, but was immediately interrupted. "No need to worry, dear. I can handle this myself," Sera said as she poured the batter onto the buttered-up pan.

"But-" Elanor tried to say.

"Don't worry too much and besides I'm taking care of you." Sera reassured her, flipping the pancake with a flick of her wrist. The little angel sighed in defeat, resting her chin on the palm of her hand.

" Oh, I almost forgot to mention that your two little bodyguards came to visit this morning." Sera glanced back at the seated angel whose eyes lit up. She felt a slight sting at her heart but, chose to ignore it not wanting to dwell on it.

But, she did feel insecure in a way. Which is strange. She thought insecurity was for the weak, but now... She's not so sure anymore. She shouldn't feel insecure; she's the Almighty Seraphim, the one that looks after her people, the one that helps guide souls into heaven, the one that takes on the heavy load of her people.

And, the way this little angel makes her feel makes her want more of it, but when people get that attention, it feels like she's been ripped away from the cloak that hides all her fears and self-doubt.

She shouldn't feel this way but, this little angel, her little Elanor makes her crave being ... Safe in her arms. She's afraid that one day that cloak around her will vanish as all her fears will flood to her and, that one person that can repair it won't... be with her anymore.

' "That'll never happen, right? She's not going to leave me like that. She's not going to leave me alone. She's just curious about her bodyguards. I am much better than those two. She'll never choose them over me... Right?" Sera pondered for a bit before shaking those thoughts away, hearing her little angel's voice behind her.

"Oh, do you know what they wanted?" Eleanor asked, curiosity getting the best of her. "Well, they wanted to thank you in person for the meal you served them yesterday. And if you'll go and have 'ice cream' with them this afternoon," Sera responded, putting the freshly made pancakes in front of her already prepared with little fruits as a side.

And that seemed to click something inside Eleanor's mind remembering her 'little hangout' with the other Seraphim, Emily.

" Oh " was all Elanor said making the seraphim ponder at her response while glancing at her. " Is something wrong?" Sera asked taking a small sip of her tea before putting it down." Oh uh, it's nothing. I just remembered something that I'll do this afternoon. Nothing to worry about." Elanor mumbled slowly eating her pancakes and might I add are absolutely delightful.
