#51 It's Always Been You

James tucked his hair behind his ear, adjusting his glasses and straightening his robe before entering the classroom. James would be meeting Regulus for the first time since Regulus' transfer and as Sirius' best friend James wanted to make a good first impression.

James looked down at the fluffy golden retriever next to him, "ready boy? you won't leave me?"

The dog nudged his head against James' arm and wagged his tail happily as James began to scratch behind his ears. James opened the door and smiled as McGonagall welcomed him in.

"Thank you Mr Potter for coming, oh and hello to you too" James continued to smile wholesomely as McGonagal came closer, bending down and laughing as the dog tried licking her face.

"James may I formally introduce you to Mr Regulus Black, Mr Crouch Jnr and Mr Rosier have taken him on a tour through the Slytherin common room and dorms but you have volunteered to give him a tour of the rest of the castle, correct?"

James peeked over McGonagal's shoulder, he looked at the shorter boy, at first glance he looked like a spitting image of Sirius, just without the tattoos and long hair. His hair was jet black, the waves of his hair perfectly styled, his collar was crisp and his tie was centered perfectly around his neck.

James looked at Regulus closer, James could clearly see the Black resemblance but something about Regulus was different. Regulus' eyes were like constellations, the dark grey in his eyes fading as a pearlescent blue surrounded his pupil like a star. His nose and cheeks were littered with freckles and his features were sharp yet detailed with a soft touch.

James noticed the pale pink that brushed across Regulus' lips, he had black eyeliner which flicked off in a little wing and a couple of earrings, one of which replicated a dagger.

James was bewitched by Regulus' character, he wasn't sure whether he should be admiring or cautiously backing away.

"Hello" Regulus nodded at James, "I'm Regulus"

"Hey" James smiled as he felt his dog come and sit next to him, "I'm James"

"I didn't know dogs were a pet option at Hogwarts?"

"They're not, he's one of a kind"

Regulus smiled lightly and bent down, putting his hand out for the dog to sniff. The dog walked over, sniffing Regulus' hand before bowing his head for Regulus to pat his back. Regulus smiled warmly, that warmth James had spotted across his face earlier before Regulus stood up and resumed his cold stance.

"Well now that we're all acquainted, James I'll let you go now. I would like that you two are back at the Great Hall by dinner, and James don't worry about Hogsmeade, Sirius is going to take Regulus there"

"Awesome, thanks professor! Regulus, if you're ready we can head out now"

Regulus nodded and followed James out of the room as they went by each classroom, students who were familiar with James' dog giving him a small smile and wave as they walked past.

James had remembered what Sirius had told him about Regulus, he knew that almost anything would be a sensitive subject at first but he had to think of something to say besides "and here we have the blah blah blah classroom".

"You seem tense, why?" Regulus looked at James with narrow eyes, he had been trying to work out who James was. He knew James was a Gryffindor, he knew James was Sirius' best friend, he knew James was the one who saved Sirius, he knew James was a prefect and a quidditch captain. So why would someone who seemed so bubbly and full of light, need a therapy dog?.
