#83 Mon Amour

Happy Valentine's Day everyone 🌹
Whether you think this is a day for love or a marketing scheme for stores to rip people off with cheap decorations and weirdly good chocolate, I hope either way you're taking time to celebrate and appreciate yourself 💕

James watched Regulus from across the hall as someone else once again handed him a card, not doubt asking for him to be their Valentine. James had gotten his fair share of cards as well, but not one from Regulus and it bothered him. James knew the two weren't offical, but he thought there was a mutual agreement or understanding between them. They'd certainly done a lot together...

James and Sirius had a tradition of making one for each other each year as a joke for being platonic soulmates, Remus and James would always buy each other chocolates, and James and Pete would always get each other flowers as Pete said it was more "traditional". James just guessed it was more so that their dorm room would smell nice and Pete wanted an excuse to have pretty flowers displayed.

James was still stumped on how to ask Regulus though, mostly because he was terrified of Regulus' rejection almost as much as he was terrified of Sirius finding out. He thought about it longer, James had never been good with words so a card never seemed to go over well, but maybe a gift? There was nothing James could buy though that Regulus couldn't just buy himself.

The bell rang and James realised he had to go back to his dorm to get his quidditch captain jersey for practice. James made his way through the hall and as everyone moved around him, heading to their classes, he noticed Regulus going out the door that lead to the greenhouses instead.

James then had a wonderful idea.

Barty groaned as he walked back into the common room and Evan just laughed, Regulus looked up from his book for a brief moment and pouted sarcastically, "did Remus say no?"

"Of course he said no, he appreciates my persistence but no, no he's not budging and apparently him and Sirius have plans." Barty flopped onto the couch next to Regulus with his head tilted back over the sofa, almost making Regulus drop his tea. "Maybe we should ask James?" Evan suggested.

Regulus dropped his tea.

The boys both looked at him and Regulus reluctantly put his book down, cleaning the glass up and placing it in the table before using a transfiguration charm to repair it. Evan grinned but pretended to ignore Regulus' clearly embarrassed expression, "anyway as I was saying"

"Maybe I should get James flowers?" Barty said in a tone that suggested he couldn't be fucked about flowers but if it'd make James change his mind he wouldn't be opposed, "what do you think his favourite flower is? Does James even have a favourite flower? He's not really the "delicate" type is he"

"Probably lilies" Dorcas snorted as she finally joined her friends after an intense dual on the other side of the common room with a particularly annoying student who wouldn't shut up about blood status. "Not that he'll ever get her- I mean them"

Evan and Barty both laughed before the three Slytherins heard Regulus whisper, "white roses", Regulus looked up when he saw his friends all looking at him with raised eyebrows, "his favourite flower is the white roses that grow in the Herbology classroom. He never shuts up about them" Regulus changed his tone to a care free one rather than one that seemed interested in James' flower choice.

Pandora suddenly arrived and in her hand was a bouquet of tulips, they were very vibrant, and she handed them to Regulus. Regulus looked down at the bright pinks, yellows, reds and oranges wrapped in a sparkly bow and then back at his friend. "Pandora?"

"Flowers. You have a secret admirer it seems, they were delivered from another student for you with this note" she handed the card over happily and Regulus took it with caution. He read the note and then looked at the flowers once more, there was only one person who knew Regulus' favourite flower was a tulip. Without the note, he could've guessed who they were from.
