A beeping sound resounded from the laptop screen, a large letter 'W' set on display. Next, came Watari's voice.
"Ryuzaki, Sakura TV just received another message from the Second Kira." There was a round of gasp and your attention was momentarily paused as you lowered the papers in your hands. The detectives rose from their seats. "It's postmarked on May 23."
Another beep, this time with the peoples present on all ears as they listen intently on the message.
"I'm happy to announce that I've found Kira. To the police and the people at the television station, I'm very grateful for your help." The voice announced that even the computer could not contain the hint of delight in their tone.
'Someone's happy,' you couldn't help but mused.
You could detect the small drop of temperature in the air, the little bit of tension sliding into the atmosphere. Your eyes scan the surroundings slowly, careful not to disrupt whoever's in a deep thought at the current situation and there's only one suspect to begin with.
Light's eyes were forzen at the moment, his mouth formed a small gape, so small that you would have to squint closely to notice. However, it only lasts for a crack of time and his expression was back to neutral. No one would've known.
On the other side of the room, in his head, Ryuzaki was similarly thinking deeply in his L mode.
"He found him? That's bad news." Aizawa voiced his concern.
"Indeed. It's not wrong to assume that both of them have teamed up by now." Chief Yagami agreed.
"Don't jump to conclusions yet." The black-haired interrupted, stirring his coffee. "The Second Kira is only saying he found him, nothing else. He may not have contacted him yet."
"Since we've come to this point," he sipped his coffee before continuing. "the police have to send a message to the Second Kira."
"A message?" Matsuda questioned.
"Yes. The police will have to reach out to the Second Kira and negotiate in exchange for Kira's name."
Light's face remain unreadable. Granted, all his alibi and actions thus far has not proven him to be anything of sorts that could lead up to him being Kira, but still L says otherwise. That is why you will continue to observe from afar and tries to read every hint, every little slip that might come out of the teen.
By the end of the day, Light along with the other detectives had long retreated to their home and finished with the work. The lights had gone off and Ryuzaki was left sitting alone in the dark with only the laptop screen as his source of light.
You came striding into the quiet room, every steps were carried with frightening accuracy and caution, years of training being put on used in that one singular stride.
"Hanako-san?" He suddenly voiced and your shoulders jumped.
Sighing, you went and dropped down on the spot beside him, smiling sheepishly.
"What, you heard me?"
"Not at all." He licked his fingers and you just noticed that plate of fruit cake on the floor close to him. "It was simply all too quiet and I've been learning to put trust into my instincts whenever you're around."
You huffed, actually quite impressed. You imagined L would've make a great Demon Slayer were he born in your time. It's highly likely that he could make it into the Hashira rankings with that witty brain of his.
"Have you done as I asked?"
"Yeah."
You pulled out several paper bags and stacks of documents with the information of DNA and such.
"With this, we should have a clear and enough evidence to put Amane under custody of being the Second Kira. And also, with the speculation from you, the witness, who's seen Amane in disguise during the 22nd at Aoyama." He holds the DNAs between his thumb and index finger one by one, examining closely before placing it back.
"This will be helpful, thank you. You're quick at your job." He complimented.
You could feel yourself grinning like a fool but it dissipate just as fast when you were reminded of the blonde that you met at the cafe and the fate that awaits her.
Misa Amane was such a nice girl, who would've thought the mask of the Second Kira hidden behind her cheery exterior. And, oh, all of her futures that could've been if she had not gotten involved with the Kira case in the first place.
"You were planning to examine every single tapes that were recorded during the 22nd at Aoyama, weren't you?" You ask with a hint of disbelief.
"That was the original plan, yes, but with these evidence and you here, you should be able to point out where have you seen Amane on that day." He replied simply. "My work is lessened, I owe you that."
"As a repayment, I shall share with you a little of my treasure."
Somewhere from his stock of food, he pulled out two packets of ice cream and handed one to you in which you accept hesitantly, muttering a small thanks.
You suppose this is Ryuzaki's way of thanking people.
When the tapes started, he lets you monitor most of the footage and lead in the talking as you describe Amane's outfit on that day based on what you remember.
During the whole process, Ryuzaki sat silently eating his ice cream, you thought that he might be spacing out and back into his thinking and deductive mode until he actually look at you in the eyes and voiced several of his questions. You answered, now eased with the fact that he's truly listening.
The next day, you were changing your outfit into a more suitable one before going to visit Light in his university with Ryuzaki, talking whatever comes to you mind because you know he's listening when he nodded his head.
When the two of you were walking side by side and you can't help but peek into the book he's reading and again you discussed about whatever contents it's about.
Later again when you were surrounded by Misa Amane's fans and the blonde greets you like an old friend, proceeds to tease about your acquaintance with Ryuzaki and you laugh it off, silently slipping the phone out from her pockets.
Once again, when the two of you were on your ride back to the hotel room once Misa Amane's under custody.
You spoke your hearts out, whether it's about the Kira case, the weather or your family, your mouth was running exercises the whole day and yet oddly, you did not feel tired at all. Because everytime you talk Ryuzaki diverts his full attention to you and motions you to continue with the smallest of gestures and that was all you need.
