Katherine's POV
'No way! You actually did that?' I burst out laughing.
'I wish I could say I broke my immature streak when I left college, but it never happened.' Joe smirked proudly.
'I can't imagine the grief you got for that from your dad.' Nick shook his head.
'Oh, he was pissed.' Joe laughed. 'Saying that, it doesn't take much with him. It's like he's permanently had a stick shoved up his ass for the past 30 odd years.'
'I can't imagine why, having you as his son.' Daniel grinned.
'Would you look at the time, we should be heading back Katherine, we've got work in the morning.' Nick told me. 'And I'm not taking a hangover as an excuse for lateness.'
I rolled my eyes. 'Okay.'
'We'll walk you out.' Daniel volunteered.
We gathered up our things, and headed out the bar, heading back up towards the college where Nick had parked. Nick and Joe walked slightly ahead, locked in conversation. Daniel hung back to talk to me. 'It's been a really good night of catching up, K.' He smiled.
'Yeah, it has.' I agreed. 'It was a total surprise running into you guys again.' I shivered, crossing my arms against the cold night air.
Daniel wordlessly took his jacket off and draped it over my shoulders. I smiled gratefully. I'd hardly recognised Daniel when I first saw him at the start of the night. He was visibly older but still more handsome than ever. He hadn't lost those cute dimples when he smiled, and his hair was as unkempt as always, but there was just something different about him. Maybe how he now carried himself with a confidence that was hard to ignore. Not to mention those really blue eyes...
I frowned. Okay there, Katherine?
We soon reached Nick's car. Joe hugged us both, wishing us a safe journey and started drunkenly skipping back up towards the college. Nick shook his head, smiling, as he got in the car. 'Coming, Katherine?'
'Yeah, give me a minute.' I nodded, turning back to Dan, who waved at Nick.
I handed his jacket back to him. 'Thanks.'
'Hey no worries.' He grinned, flashing his dimples. He reached into his wallet, pulling out a card, and handed it to me. 'Call me, yeah?'
I looked down. It was his mechanics business card. 'Sure.' I smiled warmly, pulling him in for a hug. 'It's been nice, seeing you again.'
'I hope we meet again soon.' He agreed. 'Get home safe, yeah?'
I nodded, waving at him, as I climbed in Nick's passenger seat. I put the card in my bag and turned to Nick, who was sending a text. 'Who are you texting?'
'Will, to tell him I'm on my way back.' Nick said, putting his phone away. 'Seatbelt.'
I quickly put my seatbelt on as Nick reversed out of the car park and started back down the road. I stifled a yawn. Tiredness was starting to set in.

We soon pulled up outside my house. 'Thanks Nick.'
'No problem. I had a good night with you.' He nodded.
'Yeah, it wasn't as bad as I expected.' I laughed.
'Meaning?' He raised an eyebrow, smirking.
'Nothing at all.' I giggled, opening the car door. 'I'll see you tomorrow.'
'Don't be late.' He warned.
'Wouldn't dream of it, boss.' I said sarcastically, getting out. 'Bye.'
He waved, before driving off.
I sighed and smiled, before heading up to the house and getting my keys out of my bag. I dropped them (I must have been more drunk than I thought) and bent to pick them up, before I heard a sharp cracking sound, like someone stepping on a stick or something.
I straightened up, my keys held tightly in my hand. I suddenly had an uneasy feeling, like someone watching me. I looked around, but saw nothing but the empty, dimly-lit street under street lights.
I shook the feeling off. It was probably just the alcohol making me paranoid. I quickly unlocked my door and headed in, swiftly locking it behind me, but didn't immediately switch my lights on. I was a woman who lived alone; couldn't be too careful.
I headed straight upstairs as weariness overtook me. I hoped I wouldn't have trouble falling asleep; I had to be up in the morning.
