Katherine's POV
I stared at him.
Did he just say what I think he just said?
'I'm sorry?'
'The college reunion. Will you come with me to it?' He repeated, going a bit red.
'Erm...' I didn't know what to say.
Before, I instantly thought I wouldn't be going because it would be tacky, tiresome and cringey. But now that Nick had asked me to go with him...
Wait why was I reconsidering just because Nick had asked me to go with him?? Bloody ridiculous. It was as bad as the time he asked me over for Christmas and I'd agreed. Actually, it was worse. This time, it'd just be the two of us, without his family around us to diffuse the tension.
He was still waiting for an answer.
'I'm not sure... It's not like I was planning on going anyway.' I said awkwardly.
'What?' He said, dispirited. 'Why not?'
'I don't go to events like these.' I replied, but I was already beginning to change my mind.
'I wouldn't be asking if I didn't consider you a friend Katherine.' He told me. 'You should be honoured, me asking you. Fine, if you don't want to come, I understand.'
'I'm joking, of course I'll come.' I found myself saying.
He looked up to glare at me and I smirked.
'That wasn't funny Katherine, my ego was seriously bruised.' He said.
'Not so nice, is it?' I grinned.
'So you'll go with me?'
'Yes, I suppose.' I nodded. 'If it means a lot to you.'
'It's a date.' I heard him say as I walked out of the office. I pretended not to hear him.
Lily's POV
'That cloud looks like a dinosaur.' Will pointed at a cloud just above us.
'No it doesn't.' I contradicted him.
'Well, what does it look like then?' He challenged.
'A... dog.'
'A dog?' He burst out laughing. 'Good one.'
'Shut up.' I gave him a friendly punch in the arm.
'Ow, that hurt!'
'God, you wimp. I didn't even punch that hard.' I teased him.
'I like a strong girl.' He winked, then threw a crisp into the air and caught it in his mouth.
'Skills, or what!' He grinned.
'Yeah, totally.' I rolled my eyes and watched the basketball game that was going on across the path in the basketball court. It was a gorgeous sunny day, and me and Will had decided to go out for a picnic, just the two of us. Eve and KT were shopping in town.
Suddenly, a large cloud blocked out the sun and it went a bit cold. I shivered and put my hoodie on over my top and shorts.
'Do you wanna go back now?' Will asked. 'We've been here for hours and it looks like it's going to rain.'
'Good idea.' I agreed and helped him pack the rest of the food away and we set off home.
'When are you going to get your driving license Lils?' Will asked as we walked.
'Stop complaining, it's not even that far from the park!' I laughed.
'I was just wondering, that's all.'
'I don't know. I'm only just learning to drive.' I told him.
We soon arrived on our street when a light shower of rain started coming down.
'I'm going back to mine.' I said to him. 'Want to get some coursework done.'
'Do you want me to come in with you?' He asked.
'No, it's fine, seriously. Go.' I laughed, and walked over to my place.
When I walked in, mum and dad were on the sofa, watching a movie. Abe was on the other sofa, on his laptop.
'I'm back.' I announced my presence as I walked in.
'Hi. Did you have a nice time?' Mum smiled.
'Yeah, it was good.' I shrugged. 'What's for dinner?'
'Homemade pizza.' Dad answered.
'Cool. I'm off to do coursework.' I started to walk towards the stairs when mum called me back.
'Zoe and Charlotte are coming to stay for a while in a couple weeks.' She informed me.
'What? Why?' I asked.
'Because it's your aunt and uncle's wedding anniversary in a couple weeks, and they're going on a romantic cruise, that's why.' Dad said. 'Zoe and Charlotte are going to sharing your room.'
'What? Can't they go in Abe's room, and then Abe can sleep on the sofa?' I complained.
'I am here you know.' Abe glared.
'No, they're going in your room with you, no arguments.' Mum said firmly.
'Fine.' I sighed, and went upstairs to my room. I threw my bag on my bed and sat at my computer.
Why did Zoe and Charlotte have to sleep in my room? I was going to sleep downstairs on the sofa, screw that. Charlotte had better not touch my stuff though. Or Zoe.
Me and Charlotte were very different. She was a nerd like me, but she dressed in really nerdy stuff, like denim tops, straight leg jeans and trainers. And she never wore makeup. She was pretty in her own way, but she was a bit too... ordinary. The difference was, she had friends. Lots of them. I only had Will and Eve. Maybe Michael too.
I never actually got along with Charlotte. I tried my best to be nice to her, but she was always a bitch to me. Abe said it was a cause of jealousy, but I seriously doubted it. She liked her own style, like I did mine. And she had about as equal intelligence as I did too. The last time I'd seen her, we were both just starting secondary school.
I sighed to myself as I powered up my computer. This was going to be a long... Well however long they were staying.
