The Event (Part 2)

Nick's POV

'Another drink, Calvin?' I asked Katherine. 

'Sure, thanks.' She nodded, handing me her glass. 'Same please.'

'Be right back.' I said, walking over to the drinks table. I got myself a coke since I didn't want to go over the limit; I was driving Katherine home, and poured Katherine more wine. 

'No. Way.' 

I turned to see who'd spoken. Two men of about my age were gaping openly at me. One had dark brown hair and the other had black hair. It took me a full minute to recognise them. 

'Hold on. Daniel? Joe?' My jaw dropped. 

'Nick?? Long time no see, man!' Daniel grinned widely. We all shook hands. 

'How are you?' Joe asked. 'It's been forever.' 

'Yeah, I agree. And I've been alright thanks, you two?' I replied. I couldn't believe it. I'd forgotten I'd probably run into these two. This was crazy. After University, we'd lost contact after a couple years, and that was last time we'd heard from each-other. 

They both assured me they were good, and we started talking about our careers. Daniel now owned a mechanics business and Joe was an engineering teacher. They weren't surprised when I told them me and Katherine worked in science. 

'Is Katherine here too?' Joe asked, peering around. 

'Yeah, she is actually. We came together.' I nodded. 'Come with me.' I grabbed the drinks, and lead them over to where Katherine was standing. 'Hey, Katherine. Look who's here.' I said as we approached. 

She looked over, and after a moment, her vague expression was replaced with a surprised one. Her jaw dropped and her eyes widened. 'Daniel? Joe?' 

'Hi K.' Joe grinned. 

'K? K?? Nobody's called me that in years!' She laughed in surprise and hugged them both. 'Oh my god, it's so good to see you both!' 

'Same here.' Daniel beamed. 'Which reminds me...' His eyes narrowed. 'What happened to you? Losing all contact when you went to university... Too cool for old us?'

'I'm sorry you two.' She said sincerely. 'I do regret that a lot, you were my closest friends. And no, not too cool. I just became a bitch.' She laughed. 

'Oh, we know, we heard about your ruthless reputation since becoming CEO at Calimov.' Joe chuckled. 

Daniel's POV

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw Katherine. She looked so different! Older but more gorgeous than ever. 

'This is so weird. It feels like we're back in college.' Katherine said. 'The four of us, reunited.' 

'We are in college.' I pointed out. 

'Ha-ha.' She said sarcastically. 'I didn't mean literally.' 

'No, I know exactly what you mean.' I nodded, laughing. 'I was just being a smart-ass.' 

'At least that part of you hasn't changed.' Nick commented. 

'Well why don't we all ditch this suck-fest and have a proper catch up at a bar?' Joe suggested. 

'I'm down for that.' Katherine nodded. 'I don't think this event could get anymore cringe.' 

'You in, Nick?' I turned to him. 

'Well I'm the designated driver, so I can't be drinking more. But yeah, I'll come along.' I nodded. 

'Great, it's settled.' Joe clapped his hands together. 'Let's goo.'
