Katherine's POV

I made sure I had everything I needed, and headed out. It was a gorgeous day so I thought I'd take advantage of the weather and do a bit of shopping in town.

I got into my car and slipped my shades on before driving up towards the main area of Greenpark. I smiled in contentment. Life was good. It was a beautiful day, Nick had been slightly more bearable at work the past week, after the disastrous week before.

I soon reached town and parked in the car park near the huge shopping center. I got out and decided to get a coffee first at my favourite haunt in town. Starbucks. I headed over to the warm, cosy shop, entering and breathing in the rich scent of productiveness.

'Hey, what can I get you?' The young male barista asked.

'Caramel latte to go please.' I ordered.

'Name for the order?'

'Katherine.' I said, tapping my card on the machine. I waited in the queue, staring out at the brightly lit street, before my eyes caught a familiar figure standing across the road.

I narrowed my eyes. Hold on. Was that...?

'Caramel latte for Katherine?' I turned and took my latte before quickly turning back to the window again. He was gone.

I frowned. I could have sworn I'd just seen Lord Hoffman.

It couldn't be though. He was dead.

Eve's POV

We entered the abandoned warehouse. 'This should be safe, KT.' I told my sister. KT nodded.

I set down our bags and finished checking the premises for human activity. There was none. 'Good. KT, I think we should-'

I turned. KT was violently shaking, her eyes glitching out. 'KT!' I cried. I tried to remotely connect to her system to find out what the problem was, but I was having trouble connecting. 'KT, come back to me..'

She eventually stopping shaking and starting blinking. 'KT, what happened?'

'What do you mean, sister?'

'You just malfunctioned.' I told her. 'Maybe we should go and see uncle Nick. Find out why this happened.'

Katherine's POV

3 Hours Later

I left River Island, my hands laden with bags. I probably spent more than I should have, but that was the fun of it all, and I'd just gotten paid. Plus, they had a sale on and I couldn't resist. I headed back to my car, before dumping all my bags in the boot. Maybe I'd end the day with a takeaway and a good film.

I closed the boot, and went to get in my car but before I could, a figure blocked my path.

I looked up and gasped. All words seemed to fail me.

Lord Austin Hoffman stood before me, smiling pleasantly.

'You- you-' I stuttered, barely able to form a proper sentence.

'Yes, me.' He replied, grinning.

'I - I don't understand. You're dead.'

'Quite wrong since I'm stood right here.'

'The explosion. How the hell did you survive that?' I whispered.

'I could ask you the same question Katherine. How did you survive?' He leaned against my car.

'I asked you first.' I narrowed my eyes.

'Simple. I faked my death. Granted, it took me a lot longer to heal, but I let everyone believe I was dead.' He shrugged. 'I didn't quite cheat though, like you did.'

'What do you mean?' I crossed my arms.

'The nifty little nanobots? I'll admit, it was genius.' He nodded. 'Wish I'd had access to them, but unfortunately I just had a single doctor illegally helping me in a basement as a makeshift intensive care unit. That's why it's taken me this long to show up.'

'Now what? A happy reunion with your son?' I said sarcastically. 'If the police find out you faked your death, you'll be going to prison.'

'No, I won't, because they won't find out. Making more threats, are we Katherine?' He stepped towards me. I stepped back.

'Oh, I don't know, am I?'

'You won't be able to while I'm around.' He lowered his voice dangerously. 'You'd better watch your step. And yes, that is a threat.' He turned and started to walk away. 'I'll see you around, Katherine.'

I stared after him, my heart racing. I needed to warn Nick.
