By the time the Russian Gran Prix rolled around both Lewis and Esteban had figured out why Grace had been in such a horrid mood the week before. It had been on Media day when the two of them figured it out. The two drivers had been talking just after their media session when little Jack Wolff crashed into both of their legs.
Esteban squatted down to meet the little guy as he squealed loudly. "ESTIE!" Esteban chuckled and ruffled the kids hair. "Hi Jack. How have you been? You've been good in school?" Jack grinned widely and nodded. "Yes, I learned a lot in school. I can now count all of my fingers three times. Thirty!" Lewis and Esteban both laughed at the enthousiasm of the Wolff kid, but frowned as he looked a little sad when he looked around. "Miss Gracie is not here?" Jack asked as he looked around for the blonde. Esteban shook his head.
"No Grace is still working tomorrow. Which reminds me, shouldn't you be in school today and tomorrow?" Jack shrugged and looked over his shoulder. "Mom said I could come. Said first grade isn't really important." Esteban frowned and snapped his head towards Lewis who looked as surprised as Esteban. "Your mom is here?" Lewis asked and Jack smiled and nodded. "Yes, she is back. I don't know where she went all this time, but now she is back." He rattled. "I do think mom doesn't like miss Gracie much. She isn't really nice to her. But miss Gracie is the best, so I don't get why." At the last part Jack frowned again and both Esteban and Lewis shared a knowing look. They knew exactely why Susie Wolff did not like Grace Ocon, but they couldn't let Jack pick up on that. So Lewis shook his head and crouched down next to the kid. "It's probably nothing. Miss Gracie and your mom just don't know eachother that well." Jack looked at Lewis apprehensively. "Mhm." He hummed and then nodded. Lewis smiled and looked up towards Esteban who gave the man a nod. Just as Lewis stood up from his crouching position the three where interupted by a loud voice.
"Jack Wolff. Get back here, now!" Jack jumped and tried to hide behind the two drivers as his mom aproached him. "I told you to stay by my side. Don't go running across the paddock." Jack peeked at his mom from behin Lewis. "I was just looking for miss Gracie." Jack pouted and the woman scoffed loudly. "I won't have you run across this busy paddock to go look for some teacher of yours." She then seemed to realise who were standing in front of her and put on a big, fake, smile. Esteban just rolled his eyes at the woman and turned around muttering a goodbye to Lewis.
Lewis shook his head a little as he acknowledged Susie. "Hi Susie. It's been awhile." Susie smiled at the driver and nodded. "Mhm. It has been." Susie said as they made their way towards the Mercedes garage. "So how has it been around here while I was away?" Lewis wondered if Susie knew that by the way she was talking, it just looked like she had been on a holiday. But she probably did it on purpose. "It's been good. A lot of wonderfull guests." Lewis said, he knew that was probably low, but he knew that Susie deserved it. He didn't like the fact that Susie thought she could just leave without a single word and then come back after months as is nothing happened. He knew the effect it had on Toto and Jack. And now, after months, she came back and started insulting one of the most genuine people Lewis had met over the years. Yeah, no, he wasn't going to let that happen.
The only reaction Susie gave to his comment, though, was a small tut as she clicked her tongue. Lewis huffed at this and kept his eyes looking straight ahead. At this Susie chuckled, raising an eyebrow. "I see that miss Ocon has you wrapped around her little fingers as well?" Lewis scoffed loudly this time.
"Look Susie." Lewis started. "I wasn't going to say anything. Just min my own business. But I cannot let you give out these sneers about a woman you've met, what? Once?" Lewis scoffed again at the end of the sentence and looked at the blonde next to him. "You chose to leave your husband and kid. Don't be surprised that they found someone better." Susie scoffed. "Better? She's just a simple kindergarden teacher. How can she be better?" Lewis shook his head and noticed they were entering the garage and lowered his voice. "I hope Toto sees reason sooner, rather than later." And with this Lewis walked away from Susie.
Toto, who had noticed his driver and wife walk in the garage, frowned as he noticed Lewis shake his head at the blonde woman and walk away from her. In the past the two of them gotten along just fine.
But Toto was distracted by the thought as he watched his wife walk over to him with a big smile on her face and their kid on her arm. Just like nothing ever happened and it made Toto's heart swell inside his chest. This was the picture he couldn't let go off. Their little family.
He walked over towards the woman and smiled down at her and Jack. He kissed Jack on top of his head and then looked at Susie. "I'm glad you're back. We missed you." Susie sent a sweet smile towards Toto and nodded. "I missed you too. I don't know where we went wrong, but I'm determined to work this out." And at that moment it was all that Toto had ever longed for, to complete his family once again. Almost, forgetting all about Grace. Almost.
Because Toto had seen Esteban and Lewis together. He knew they had been talking about her. And probably him too. He was wondering is she told them about what happened after their dinner together last monday. She seemed to be good friends with Lewis. Would she tell Lewis about her sexcapades with his team principal? He hoped not because not only would that embarass him, but it could also get him in big trouble.
Ofcourse he felt guilty by leaving her at that moment, and then not returning her texts or calls. But his wife came back to him, they talked things out, they would be a family again. It wasn't as if the sparks between him and Susie had just disapeared over night, no they were still there. How could he not give in to the mom of his son. He loved her even if the divorce papers had been freshly signed. And those divorce papers where now on their way to being annuled.
Toto shook his head from his thoughts. He kissed Susie, not bothering to hide it from the cameras. But in his back pocket his phone kept burning, from the unanswered text messages and calls from Grace.
