The TARDIS drifts in space as I fiddle with the controls "what are you doing?" Liv asks "have to put it into safe mode, she needs to reconfigure after discharging time energy" she just nods as the lights dim.. Nearby, in the endless depths of space, three brothers place a magna clamp on the time machine, thinking it's nothing but salvage, me and Liv hold on to each other for dear life as everything begins to go up in flames and sparks..
I wake up, holding my head in pain for a second "head, shoulders knees and toes I'm fine... Liv?!" I stand up, only to find myself in the presence of three men, on some spaceship, the TARDIS laying amongst other bits and bobs of salvage "where am I?" One of them steps up and just says "our ship, who are you?" "I'm the Doctor, and you?" "Well, I'm Joseph, this is my brother Stephen and my other brother Paul" "nice to meet you, what have you done to my ship?!" "We just thought it was salvage ok?! We're a scavenger crew.." "Looking to just make a quick buck might have got my friend killed! So, for your sake, you'd best help me find her" "your ship's leaking fuel if there's anyone still in there, she's dead" "when I find her alive and well, and I WILL find her alive and well, I'll very much give you a star chart to the nearest salvage filled planet, but only if you help me find her.. Have you got that?" "Fine.." He just replies as I open the doors and we head inside..
Liv wakes up, among the fire and rubble of the damaged time machine "alright.. I'm alive, that's a plus" she gets up and quickly wraps up her arm with a bandage from her bag. She then looks at the door behind her, turning to face it "red flashing light.. Means something bad, I'm gonna open it.." She opens the door, only to hear mechanical whirring and a low voice say "organic life form detected" "oh no.." Liv takes several steps back as the Cyberman walks towards her "alright, screw this" she uses her sonic to jam its systems before bolting down the corridors. After finding a plethora of different corridors, leading to different places in the ship, she swallows her pride and says "alright, I know you're alive.. Somewhat, I need to find the Doctor, can you help me?" As if responding to her request, one of the corridors light up, lighting her way, she smiles and sets off, following the lights..
Inside, I fiddle with the controls and remove the gas "safe to breathe!" I announce as we take off our gas masks "how is it.." "Dimensional engineering, don't even bother asking, now.. Where's Liv?" The monitor, also as if the TARDIS itself is responding to my question, shows me the camera feeds. I smile brightly as I see Liv following the lights towards the control room "she's alive then" Joseph remarks "that she is.." The four of us stand around, waiting for her..
Eventually, she comes out of one of the doors "Doctor!" I smile and the pair of us meet in a hug of pure embrace and unification "who are they?" "They're uhm.. Locals, ah! Star chart.." I press a button and a small drive comes out of a compartment, I hand it to Joseph "this will lead you to Silfrax 7, safe travels" "thank you Doctor, come on you two" the three of them leave the ship before Liv, rather suddenly, punches me in the arm "why is there a Cyberman in here?!" "What?!" "When I woke up, there was a bloody Cyberman behind a door!" "That... Shouldn't be here, hang on" I press some buttons and sigh "sugar.." "What is it?" "It seems that when the magna clamp hit the TARDIS, the safeguards were damaged too.." "Meaning?.." "Meaning things from different realities are bleeding into the TARDIS itself.. Come on!" I run over to the underbelly of the control room, opening a hatch "come on where?" Liv asks after catching up to me "the centre of the TARDIS.."
The two of us walk through endless corridors as Liv asks me "where are we even going?" "The library" "alright.. You gonna tell me now?" "Tell you what?" "What really happened, after you got summoned back to Gallifrey" I sigh and stop in my tracks "there was a war.. Between the Time Lords and the Daleks" "why?" "Daleks found out that the Time Lords created the Flux and thus destroyed Skaro, so they initiated a war.." "So, what happened?" "I had to fight, even had to use the Moment.. Time Lords survived but barely.. They're as good as dead now" Liv just shakes her head and hugs me, so lovingly yet also sadly that I fear both my hearts will break. "Right, come on" she smiles a little and we run off for the library..
Inside I just say to Liv "ok stay here, this place is huge you'll get lost" "gotcha" she smiles before I run off "hang on" she calls out "what?" "What are you looking for?" "Spare TARDIS manual, I threw the main one in a supernova" "you threw the manual in a supernova?! Why?" "..'Cause I disagree with it, shan't be long" she just nods as I swan off, but then a book catches her eye. A book simply titled 'THE TIME WAR: A COMPLETE HISTORY' against her better judgement she reads it.. She learns about it all, the Nightmare Child, the theories about what happened to Davros the day his command ship flew into the jaws of the Nightmare Child, the Could've Been King with his armies of Meanwhiles and Neverweres, so much history.. So much bloodshed.. So many worlds and lives and loves lost..
Eventually I come back "got it" I just say as Liv quickly closes the book. I walk up to her and see the title "you alright?" She scoffs "I should be asking you that.. I'm so sorry Doctor" "well, thanks.. But it's best not to dwell on it, it's over now.. Now, let's go get our TARDIS fixed shall we?" She smiles a little paired with a nod before we run off once more...
We soon find ourselves.. Somewhere strange, a small abundance of rocks lay outside of a door but apart from that it's just.. Nothing, just a white void "what is this?" Liv asks, "it's a snarl, like when an animal is wounded it snarls at anything trying to help it or kill it, the TARDIS is snarling at us.." "Ok, so what do we do?" "Have I ever mentioned how much I love that you always just get straight to the point?" She smiles before I then say "but I don't think this is real.." I pick up a stone and drop it into the void, it merely vanishes "we need to jump.." "Really?" "Leap into the unknown Liv.." I hold out my hand, she takes it with a smile as we jump..
We find ourselves in yet another white void, metallic parts decorate the air... "This is the control room.." I just say, silently defeated. "What's happened?" "The magna clamp must have damaged the TARDIS more than I initially thought.." I just look at it, the ruined time machine engine, seconds away from total destruction "she's- she's always been there for me and now it's my turn and I.. I don't know what to do.." Liv just silently takes my hand, but then says "I remember.. All that time ago when we ended up on that spaceship, the sonic can repair the TARDIS right?" "It can but.. The damage is too severe for that.. I'd need at least two sonics' to do it.." "You know.. It might be a little insensitive to say right now but you really can be stupid sometimes y'know?" "Go on.." She just chuckles and gets out her own sonic "we have two of em'.." I smile brightly and kiss her on the forehead "thank you.. Now, setting 426" "just point and think yeah?" "Bingo.." The pair of us hold out our sonics' and watch as the TARDIS rebuilds itself around us...
Back in the control room, Liv just walks up to me and smiles before saying "see why you need me?" I smile too before saying "of course I do.. Thank you" the pair of us hug again before I put my hand on the lever "ready?" "Ready.." I pull it down..
NEXT TIME: Liv witnesses some of the fallout of the Time War..
