"W-who are you again?" Lani asked, confusion written all over her face.
"Kymani," he said with a smile. Lani's expression quickly softened into one of curiosity and amusement.
"So, you're the one who's been buying me all these gifts," she said, tilting her head slightly at him. He adjusted himself under her gaze, a small smirk tugging at his lips.
"Guilty," he replied, slowly getting up and walking toward the bed. Lani noticed he was noticeably bow-legged, a detail she found oddly endearing.
"You're so pretty, mami," he said as he sat next to her, making sure to look into her eyes.
"Thank you, baby," she replied, and the words slipped out naturally, almost as if they had known each other for a long time.
"My car... where's my car?" she suddenly remembered.
"The Tiny girl has it. I asked her to take it home with her, mami," he answered quickly, seeing the worried expression on her face. Relief washed over her.
"Do you have a spare toothbrush or anything?" she asked, getting up off the bed, trying to break free of the intensity of his stare.
The bathroom connected to the room was wide open. She glanced back to see Kymani right behind her. He leaned over, opening the drawer and pulling out a new box of toothbrushes, handing it to her. She grabbed the toothpaste off the counter and started brushing her teeth, focused on freshening her breath.
Kymani couldn't take his eyes off her, watching through the mirror. Slowly, he moved closer, wrapping his arms around her. She jumped slightly at the sudden cold of his hands. He pressed his head into her neck, inhaling the perfume that still lingered.
Lani smiled at the sensation, feeling oddly natural with him, as if she had known him in a past life. Every movement—brushing her teeth, washing her face with a rag—he stayed close, holding her.
"You're very clingy, huh?" she asked, smiling, wiping the soap under her eyes.
"Only with you. I don't really like people touching me," he mumbled, his head pressed into her neck.
"How do I know you don't do this with everyone and you're just lying?" she asked, keeping the conversation going.
"I can show you better than I can tell you," he replied, holding her tighter.
"I like that response," she smiled, turning to face him, her 5'1" frame dwarfed by his 5'11" stature.
"I like these, they're different," she said softly, running her fingers over the dents in his head.
"You don't have to lie, mami. I know these make me look ugly," he replied, trying to tuck his head back into her neck.
"Is this why you didn't want to meet me sooner? Because you think these are ugly?" she asked, genuinely concerned. He hummed in response.
"Mani, these don't make you ugly at all. In my opinion, they make you more attractive," she reassured him, smiling as she traced her fingers over his face.
"Thank you, mami," he said, flashing his bright teeth before lowering his head back into her neck.
Slow, soft kisses traced from her neck to behind her ear. Lani tilted her head, letting him explore, and Mani followed her movements, his tongue tracing down to her collarbone.
"Okay, baby, okay," she lowly moaned, making him pull back, finally looking into her eyes.
"I need to take you home," he said, moving away. A frown crept onto Lani's face, reluctant to leave.
"Why?" she asked, following him out of the bathroom.
"You need to get ready. I'm taking you shopping," he replied, gathering her things off the bedside table.
"No, Mani. I'm not going shopping. You can take me home, but I'm not shopping," she said sternly, hands on her hips.
"Why?" he pouted, his voice softening.
"Mani, you've already spent enough money on me. You don't need to spend more," she said firmly.
"Girl, I will give you my bank account number if I have to. I don't care about spending money—you deserve it," he said with a mischievous mug, walking out of the room. Lani had no choice but to follow behind him.
