THE NEXT MORNING WAS FAR more eventful than anything Soleil could have prepared herself for. Upon waking up, she stepped into the hallway only to be met with shouts and a narwhal nearly straight to the face.

     A narwhal?

"DUCK!" and suddenly Soleil was on the ground.

She felt a shove and tumbled back into her bedroom as Marco slammed the door shut and himself against the door. The princess stood bewildered, in her pajamas, waiting for him to give some sort of explanation.

"What is-" she was cut off with a yelp as Marco dove forward to pull them behind her bed. He forced them both into a crouching position, moving only so he could see just above the bed.

"What is going on?!" Soleil shouted, turning to face Marco as though he was a kidnapper.

"Shh!" he said, continuing to stare at the door.

"You can't just burst into my room, without my permission, and then not tell me what's going on!" Soleil exclaimed, though quieter than before.

"There's a monster situation okay, Star just said to hide," Marco explained.

"We can't just sit here while she's in trouble!" the princess got up, making her way to her suitcase and digging through it.

Marco said nothing, his gaze still locked on the door as if he were convincing it to catch on fire. Soleil dug through her belongings until she found what she was looking for; her wand.

It was less extravagant than Star's, a simple gold handle with a large blue six pointed star to match her cheek marks. She only hoped that she could remember enough defensive spells to help her sister.

Ripping the door open, Soleil stormed out with a look of confidence on her face. Marco ran behind her, pleading for the blonde to stop and come back to safety.

Soleil ignored his warnings however, continuing on her path to the backyard where the commotion had moved. She passed a destroyed living room and kitchen on her way, reminding herself to help clean for Mr. and Mrs. Diaz later.

For the second time that morning, Soleil dodged a spell, this time a whirling strawberry cupcake. She stopped only for a moment take in the scene around her. There were several monsters crowded around Star, though by the looks of it she wasn't having a hard time defending herself.

"Macaroon Melee Swarm!" Star shouted, blasting several surrounding monsters with the baked good.

Soleil looked around, deciding this was her chance to prove herself helpful to her sister. She dug deep in her brain, trying to remember a spell from her childhood. It was too late though, as a large two headed monster came barreling at her, so she took a page from Star's spell book and started throwing words together.

"Crystal Butterfly Wind Storm!" a giant butterfly flew from her wand, blinding the group of monsters and knocking everyone off their feet from a simple flap of it's wings.

This provided a distraction long enough for Star to grab her dimensional scissors, tear open a portal to who knows where, and shove the group into the portal. Soleil dropped to the ground as she watched it close, completely exhausted.

"Soleil!" Star called, running to her sister's aid. "Are you okay? That was crazy! I told you to hide!"

"And what? Leave you to fend for yourself?" the younger princess huffed, looking to her older sister. "That's not what I'm here for."

Star sighed, though she was incredibly proud of her sister for being so brave in the face of danger. "Thank you," she smiled, brushing back Soleil's hair.

"Hoy Yah!" Marco shouted valiantly, chopping open the door fully decked out in his karate uniform and what appeared to be homemade armor padding. "Oh."

The group walked back into the house, looking around to see the damage done. The coffee table was snapped in half, the couch was torn, stuffing strewn about the room. Several picture frames were smashed, along with collectable vases Marco's parents had.

"Mom and dad are gonna be so pissed," Marco mumbled, standing with the sisters on either side, staring at the living room. "They'll be home in half an hour, what are we supposed to do?!"

"Duh, Marco, why do you think we were born with magic?" Star said, stepping forward and holding up her wand.

     "Uh, I don't think that's a very good-"

"Magic Portal Suck Transform!" and a blackhole opened on the ceiling.

     "...Idea."

     And then Marco fainted.

✶ ✶ ✶

"You can't just be reckless with magic all the time Star," Soleil scolded her sister for what felt like the millionth time as they retrieved the portal-sucked objects. "Magic is an art. It requires thought and practice. Just because you're good at defensive magic doesn't mean you're good at everything! Do you ever brush up on spells, even the ones you know? I mean for gods sake when was the last time you even spoke to Glossiryk?! I just can't with you right now."

Star paid no mind to her sisters rant, instead focusing on pulling the large green couch back through the portal. She faceplanted onto the ground as Soleil fell gracefully on both feet next to her.

"Could you stop being so perfect all the time?" Star huffed, pushing herself to her feet. After putting the couch into position, she laid a still unconscious Marco on top.

"Whatever Star. Just put thought into what you're doing before you do it," Soleil huffed, turning from her sister to begin picking up the remaining debris.

A half an hour later, just as the Diaz's car rolled into the driveway, the sisters stepped back to admire their work. The living room and kitchen looked almost exactly they had before the monster attack, save for two exchange-student photos that happened to be unfixable according to Star.

"Oh kids! We are home!" Mr. Diaz shouted, startling Marco from his sleep.

"I'm ready! Who wants a piece of this?!" Marco shouted, holding up his hands in a fighting stance and spinning in circles. When he realized there was no threat, he put his hands down in embarrassment. "Oh hey guys."

"Why yes, it's lovely to see you too honey," Mrs. Diaz responded sarcastically.

"Sorry," Marco rubbed his neck, moving to hug his parents and take his mothers purse.

"The house looks very nice," Mr. Diaz commented, looking around in awe as every surface practically sparkled.

Soleil let her shoulders slump, feel relief for the first time that day. "Thank you, Mr. Diaz. Star and I helped Marco tidy up."

The parents smiled, moving into the kitchen and leaving the three teens alone. Soleil dropped onto the couch, letting herself get comfortable in the corner. Marco sat next to her, with Star on his other side. The blonde silently thanked Marco for splitting them up as the tensions between the sisters only seemed to worsen.

"Okay it's time for us to break this ice," Marco said, placing a hand on both the girls' knees.

"What ice? We've known each other since birth," Star snarked, pushing Marco's hand away.

Marco swept his hands down his face, letting out a long breath. This was not going to be an easy task.
