SOLEIL WAS OUT OF PLACE. This new world was hard to get used to, and on top of that it felt like there was no one on her side. She hadn't spoken to any of her "friends" since she left the academy, which didn't surprise her in the slightest.

Her friends were never about support and kindness, but rather upstaging and money. They only cared to have a contact to the king and queen of Mewni, no matter how hard Soleil tried to set herself apart from her title.

She was always the princess, the well behaved sister, the heir to the throne, and nothing more. Even her teachers favored her in hopes of moving up in the ranks of royalty. That was the biggest reason she refused to learn anything but the most basic spells because magic would only hinder her journey to being her own person.

Star was always pressuring her to learn more magic, so she could help fend off monsters, but even her own sister didn't understand it. Every Sunday gets more intense than the last however, as Star claims it's her training day.

Really, it's her blow up the back yard and try to put it back together before Mr. and Mrs. Diaz get back day. Or freak Marco out to the point of a panic attack day. Or, as Soleil considered it, the worst day of the week.

It seemed as though Soleil was on a trend of not being able to sleep in this house, as her wake up call this morning was a raspberry ribbon lasso pulling her by the ankle out of bed.

The princess fell to the ground with a thud, narrowly missing the corner of her night stand.
"Star, you have until the count of three to run as far as you can possibly make it before I kill you!"

Star screeched, immediately regretting her decision and sprinting away. The laser puppies followed suit, enjoying this game. Marco peaked his head in from the hallway, where he was trying his hardest to convince Star to settle down.

"Soleil? Are you alright?" he asked timidly.

     "Peachy."

"I told her that was a bad idea. She just wanted to see how far the lasso would reach.. I guess now we know huh?" Marco chuckled in an attempt to break the tension.

Soleil had yet to get up off the floor, not finding Marco's jokes to be very motivating. All she wanted to do was rot in bed for at least another hour. Was that so much to ask?

"Uh, I was thinking maybe we could get out of the house while Star trains today? Save both of us a headache," the boy offered, still standing in the doorway awkwardly.

Soleil furrowed her brows and looked up, "Just the two of us?"

"Yeah, just the two of us. I-i mean if that's okay with you! Of course you don't have to if you don't want to I just, I just thought it might be nice to avoid the chaos today," Marco stammered.

The princess thought for a moment, weighing her pros and cons. On one hand, all she really wanted to do was rot in bed and lock her door so no one could bother her. But on the other hand, it would be nice to get to know the person who was living down the hall from her.

"Yeah, that sounds nice," she smiled, pulling herself up from the floor. "I'll be ready in like, thirty minutes?"

"Yeah, okay," Marco smiled. "I'll meet you by the front door."

Half an hour later, Soleil stepped out of her room showered, groomed, and dressed for her and Marcos escape. She wore a plain white dress with a blue cardigan, buttoned only once on the top. She chose her most comfortable white tennis shoes, just in case Marco chose to make her walk somewhere far.

Her blonde hair was tied half up with a blue ribbon to match the cardigan, just enough to keep it out of her face but save the length. The princess felt the need to put as much thought into this outfit as possible, seeing it was her first time going out without Star to calm her nerves.

If there was only one thing the sisters had in common it was their ability to overthink. They always made a habit of checking each others outfits before they went out, and so Soleil made a stop at her sisters door before heading downstairs.

She knocked lightly, entering the room with Stars permission. The older girl sat on her bed prepping her training gear, which consisted of several weapons and her wand.

"What's up, Sol?" Star asked, not looking away from her tools.

"Is my outfit cute?"

Star looked up for the first time, staring intently at her sisters clothes. She admired the gold buttons adorning her sweater, and the frill on the cusp of her white socks. Her hair was curled perfectly at the end in large ringlets, and her bangs framed her face nicely.

The princess grinned, "You look beautiful."

Soleil smiled, glancing down nervously. This felt like the first peaceful interaction they'd had since she arrived on Earth.

"Thanks Star."

"Where are you going?" Star asked, turning her attention back to the weapons.

"Oh, Marco said he's gonna show me around town so we can stay out of your way today. But I have my mirror so, call me if things get to out of hand," Soleil explained.

"Okay, you guys have fun," Star brushed off.

Soleil left the room feeling gratified. She made her way downstairs to the front door, where Marco waited. He smiled as she made her way downstairs, his wallet and keys in hand.

"I like your dress," he complemented.

"Thank you, Marco."

The pair made their way out of the house, and headed towards downtown. There were tons of shops and restaurants to visit, and Marco wanted to make the rounds of all his favorite places.

"So, I say we start with Britta's, I know you've already been there but it's my favorite and it's even better the second time. Then we can head to the square and window shop, and maybe the pier if there's time? Sound good to you?" Marco rambled off, looking to Soleil for approval.

The princess simply nodded, glad to be spending her day doing something with a friend instead of laying in her bed alone.
