Shattered

Chapter 1

It was a rainy day in Westopolis and the news is doing a special tribute for a special mobian.

"Today marks 1 year since the death of Sonia the Hedgehog. She was remembered as a hero and a member of the band Sonic Underground. Her brother Sonic the Hedgehog hasn't been seen since her funeral." They showed the last footage they had at Sonia's funeral where people were despising him saying he could've done more to save her. "Since that day some people think he skipped town and others think he took his own life. My source believes everyone has given up hope on their former hero and moved on with their lives."

"Not everyone..." Ruby eyes looked up as he shuts off the tv. Shadow was sitting in his recliner with his laptop on his lap. He lives outside the city in a 2-story home. "Even though it's been a year, I haven't given up hope on him. It's a promise I made to not only Sonia...but myself." Sonia is the only one that knew Sonic and Shadow like each other. She was working back and forth trying to get them to confess to each other. There was progress up until the incident and then...nothing.

On his laptop he's trying to figure out where Sonic might be based on his last location. Eggman and his former commander Towers have been gone for about a year and a half. Thanks to his new commander, Shadow has more freedom and doesn't get assigned missions unless they really need him. He also has permission to use any GUN equipment needed to help him find Sonic, and he not only had the commander but all the agents supporting him. Knuckles, Rouge, Amy, and Blaze help whenever they can, but Shadow understands they have their own lives. Knuckles guarding the master emerald and dating Rouge who is his partner at GUN. Amy and Blaze own a diner together and they're also dating. The one mobian that nobody expected to give up or despise Sonic the way he did was Tails. He moved on pretty fast as if Sonic never existed. He has even tried convincing Shadow a couple times to face the facts, but he made it perfectly clear to him that he would never betray Sonic. "I'll never give up on you. Whatever it takes I will bring you home."

Six months ago he got a call and was asked to come to the office of a life insurance company upon Sonia's request which surprised him. Shadow did go and talked to the agent Sonia talked to. She left everything to Shadow and left a note explaining everything. He looked at the letter she left him.

Shadow,

I know my time is probably running short, so I wanted to be prepared. Everything I leave will help you and Sonic get settled together. I specifically did your name in fear of Manic taking Sonic. I also wanted to tell you a little secret even Sonic doesn't know. This whole time I was helping you get closer to my brother, I was also helping him get closer to you. Sonic really likes you and has been wanting to ask you out for a long time. I trust you will give him the happiness he deserves, and keep the promise you made me to protect and take good care of him.

He snapped out of his thoughts when he saw his commander calling, so he grabbed his phone and answered. "Hey Richard" "Hey just checking on your progress in finding Sonic." Shadow looks down at the letter again before replying. "I haven't gotten any leads...and I'm worried he's staying somewhere not by choice." "Don't worry Shadow, we will find him and like we discussed he will be under GUN protection. This has been your most important mission for the last year. Oh and as you requested we did look into Manic. It looks like he's involved in some drug and sexual activity with Scourge. They own an apartment complex in a bad area outside of Metropolis." Shadow has heard of that area. It is so dangerous not even GUN agents will set foot there. "I really appreciate everything you and the other agents have done to help me. I'll keep looking and update you if I find anything." "Alright Shadow sounds good."

After he got off the phone with Richard, he saw he got a text. His heart skipped a beat when he saw who it was from...
