XI - BYE BYE BEACH BOY

VALERIA DID NOT HESITATE as she jumped up and ran out of the Hermes cabin. It sounded like he was at the beach. He continued to scream that he was under attack as she ran faster and faster until her feet hit sand.

"You are...safe?" She breathed heavily, her bow in her hand.

Percy turned around from where he was staring at the waves and frowned. "Of course I am?"

Valeria huffed, "I was actually worried! You cannot act so idiotic, fish brain!"

"Heard you yell, 'Bad things are attacking!'" Tyson said as he ran over.

"I didn't call you guys," Percy said. "I'm fine."

Valeria noticed the three yellow duffel bags by his feet, then the thermos and the bottle of vitamins he was holding. "Um what is—"

"Just listen," Percy said. "We don't have much time."

He told them about his conversation with Hermes. They could hear screeching in the distance—patrol harpies picking up their scent.

"We have to save camp," Valeria said.

"We'll get expelled, you know. Trust me, I'm an expert at getting expelled," he said.

"Getting expelled is the least of our problems! If we do not do this, there shall be no camp to get expelled from."

"Yeah, but you live here and you promised Chiron—"

"To keep you from danger, which is exactly what I am doing at this very moment," Valeria protested. "If I do not go with you, you will get yourself killed."

"Will not—"

"I want to go," Tyson suddenly said.

Percy really didn't want Tyson to go. He didn't want the reminder that he was related to him. And he needed space. Also, he didn't want to worry about having to protect him all the time. He'd probably start crying when he saw monsters and get them all killed.

"I vote we bring him along," Valeria said nonchalantly. "He can help us out. And how can you say no to that face?"

"We can't leave him," Percy agreed. "Tantalus will punish him for us being gone."

"So we have to get to that cruise ship?" Valeria asked, pointing to a ship on the water. "How are we to do that?"

"Hermes said my father would help."

"Then you better get to praying, kelp head."

Percy huffed, hating that nickname. "Um, Dad?How's it going?"

"We shall be dead within the minute if you make casual conversation any longer," she hissed.

"We need your help," Percy called a little louder. "We need to get to that ship, like, before we get eaten and stuff, so..."

At first, nothing happened. Waves crashed against the shore like normal. The harpies sounded like they were right behind the sand dunes. Then, about a hundred yards out to sea, three white lines appeared on the surface. They moved fast toward the shore, like claws ripping through the ocean.

As they neared the beach, the surf burst apart and the heads of four white stallions reared out of the waves.

Tyson caught his breath. "Fish ponies!"
