XXIX - A LOT HAPPENS

"YUMMY DEMIGOD!" a telekhine screamed as she led them away from Percy.

If you have ever seen a telekhine, you might think they are adorable. They have pointy ears and big brown eyes like a dog. Except they had flippers and large claws. Major problem.

"Come on!" Valeria yelled, leading a group — gods, maybe 50? — of telekhines through the forge.

Her heart was pounding in her chest. This was probably the most stupid thing she had ever done, and she had done a lot of stupid things over the past few years. Mainly since she had met Percy.

Valeria would have kept running if she did not hear someone yell, "CLASS DISMISSED!"

She turned around and muttered, "Stupid sea brat," before she swung an arc through the telekhines directly on her tail. They wailed and turned into piles of gold dust.

The thing was, her dagger was super short. The only way to kill these guys would be to shoot them.

Valeria looked around and said, "You would not know where the visitor center is, would you?"

"Right here!" one of them barked happily, eyeing her like they would their lunch. "Come visit my stomach, tasty demigod!"

"I walked right into that," Valeria mumbled, reached up and pressing her hair piece. She felt her bow appear in her hands and smiled as they took a step back.

She nocked a few arrows and heard whimpers as the telekhines were sent to Tartarus.

"I am pleased that you finally showed up," Valeria told Percy as he ran up.

"I have an idea," he said as he sliced some of them with Riptide.

"Go for it," she told him as he held up his sword.

"Tasty demigods this way!" he yelled and ran off.

Valeria herded them towards him from behind, nocking arrows and slowly weeding them out.

Percy's plan worked quite effectively. He trapped them in a tunnel and sealed the door. He walked back to her with a grin.

"Well, that was easy!" he said.

Valeria just stared at him. Percy relented and said, "Well maybe it wasn't. But! I saved you for once!"

He said it as if it was the best thing in the world. He walked towards her with that troublemaker smile and her heart nearly stopped.

"You good, Sunshine?" he asked.

Valeria could only nod and manage a "mhm." What was she thinking?

She remembered how last winter she had called him an idiot. His response had been, "Your idiot."

Valeria did not know why she was thinking about that now. That was something Percy had simply said to distract her from carrying the weight of the world. Obviously.

Valeria jumped as she felt hands placed on her shoulders.

"Sorry, you just seemed a little stuck in your head," Percy apologized with a small smile.
