Brittany and Kurt strolled through the halls of McKinley High, their footsteps echoing in the empty corridors. Brittany's gaze wandered over the walls adorned with posters and artwork, her expression a mix of curiosity and nostalgia. "This is so weird," she remarked softly.
Kurt nodded in agreement, adjusting the strap of his bag on his shoulder. "Did you get a map of the school?" he asked, glancing at Brittany.
She side-eyed him and shook her head. "Nope," she replied casually.
Kurt frowned slightly. "So, how do we get to the principal's office then?" he inquired.
Brittany shrugged nonchalantly. "I don't know," she admitted.
Kurt sighed, a hint of exasperation in his voice. "Helpful," he muttered under his breath.
"What do you want me to do? Have a big map on me?" Brittany retorted with a playful grin.
Rolling his eyes, Kurt linked their arms together. "Whatever, let's go on a tour and try to find it ourselves," he suggested.
"But what if we run into Blaine or Santana? Won't it ruin the surprise?" Brittany voiced her concern.
Kurt shrugged, his determination unwavering. "Maybe, but it's a risk we'll have to take," he replied.
Brittany giggled, finding Kurt's seriousness amusing. "Don't say 'risk,' it sounds a lot more serious than it is," she teased.
As they walked in silence for a moment, Brittany couldn't shake off her growing unease. "We shouldn't be doing this," she confessed suddenly.
Stopping in his tracks, Kurt turned to face her, concern evident in his eyes. "What do you mean?" he asked softly.
Brittany shook her head, her voice trembling slightly. "We barely know them, Kurt. We moved to their school just to be closer to them," she admitted.
Kurt gently placed his arm around her shoulders, offering her reassurance. "Britt, I practically forced you into coming here. Just tell her that," he suggested.
Looking around anxiously, Brittany hesitated before finally letting Kurt lead her away. "Come on, Britt. No second doubts," he urged, his voice filled with determination.
Brittany and Kurt finally arrived at the principal's office, their hearts racing a bit from the rush of being late. As they entered, they noticed a girl sitting on a chair, looking utterly bored. Mr. Figgins, the principal, glanced up from his desk and gave them a disappointed look.
"You're late," he stated firmly.
Brittany flashed a guilty smile. "We didn't know where it was," she confessed sheepishly.
Mr. Figgins let out a sigh, clearly unimpressed. "It's right by the entrance," he informed them.
Brittany's frown deepened. "We just realized that now," she admitted, feeling a bit foolish.
Mr. Figgins waved his hand towards the girl sitting nearby. "This is Mercedes. She's giving you a tour," he said, introducing them.
Brittany and Kurt turned their attention to Mercedes, who forced a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes. They exchanged a glance, sensing her reluctance.
As Mercedes quickly glanced at her phone and then hid it away, Kurt leaned in towards Brittany and whispered, "I don't think she likes us."
Brittany pouted, whispering back, "That sucks. She seems really kind."
Kurt nodded in agreement, their excitement for the tour slightly dampened by the awkward atmosphere.
Brittany and Kurt trailed behind Mercedes, their steps slow and hesitant. Kurt cleared his throat, breaking the silence. "Um, sorry for being late," he offered sheepishly.
